Any news :o

The family appear to have rented the bar out to some ladies and they continue to have a bar their. Papa comes over in the morning to open up but then does not sit there staring into our living room any more which is a plus.

The officials have told me on a number of occasions that they will be moved. We are trying to just carry on with our own business and not get distracted too much by them.

I did not push it as I had applied for a permit to build a small sea wall to protect my land from erosion (It is totally within the laws and not near the squatters but still I felt it better to stay quiet while that application and construction are underway). That permit was received last week and we are about to start construction as soon as we find a suitable builder and the cash to do it.

We felt it is better to keep moving than to sit around waiting.

All other things are the same. The sh$%^t goes onto the beach, the rattling old tin shack keeps us awake at night during a high wind, we still cannot use Anna’s room in the rain, the beach is a mess, they still park on the road, they are still dangerously wrapped around the electricity pole, they still live happily in their other 2 houses while renting out the mess … life goes on.

Good luck, BBC, you're doing the best thing under the circumstances. They will eventualy be forced to leave, I hope!

So in the end, it was all an exercise in chasing your tail?

So the legality or illegality of any of this turned out to be immaterial?

You still don't get it! It was all a good PR stunt for his business! :o And you bought breakfast :D

This is the one comment that I do take offense at, many just go over my head, or I ignore.

If I meant it as a PR for the business I believe I would not have let it sit quiet for so long especially in these quieter months. But I also believe that it is not something that brings people into the restaurant (you cant actually see them from the restaurant). Many locals who already go to the restaurant might ask me about it but I certainly felt it was not a PR "stunt". I did not initiate the "stunt", I did not intate the attachment to my house, I did not initate the sewerage etc onto the beach, I did not initate the gun being shown to me etc.

I did not actually post the original message on this forum, although I had sent out an email to many of the locals on my mailing list.

It has actually progressed well, but I took the advice of many people who told me to stop focusing on it (causing me to get stressed) and to keep in the background.

The Squatters have basically moved out, most of the family now living in the Plai Leam house and I believe they might be building more. Papa comes over to open it up but he generally spends the time there on his own except for the few times some friends come to help him.

Other things are in progress that should see it done in a manner to reduce loss of face and seen to be a natural move.

I am looking forward to posting positive news, but in the mean time, leave it here as an example that unless it is dealt with early and quickly, things could have the potential to drag on ... as a lesson for others and not a PR stunt for my restaurant.

If the moderators consider it a PR stunt, they can take it off.

Cheers

Nothing personal, BBC, it just seems to me this forum has become a PR site for all the owners of a business. And they NEVER seem to get deleted.

I do think you've had a lot of undo stress, but this is Thailand, and not the the UK. I do believe this should NOT be deleted, since it shows what life can be like on Samui.

Anyways, Good Luck to you and yours!

No hard feeling, I hope.

yeah, where to put the line between "sponsored" and regular news as the interests seem to vary.... I could use the "word" since then again there is that chance that someone just goes around "finding stuff" that is not really news...

so what is the situation today?

I talked with Mark yesterday and he said that he has given up posting as he was being accused of doing it to advertise his business. Many things have happened and he said that people can just send him a PM and get an update if they want.

The idea of going to a resturant which has a bunch of squatters next to it puts me off. I can't believe some people think of posting this news as advertising......there would be much better ways of advertising than saying you had squatters next door come and look. I can see the look on the wifes face when discussing where to go for dinner 'i know lets go to that place with the squatters next door.....' I mean honestly do these people have this type of conversation?

Besides, Jens did already clarify how he ment with that comment and bbc already said "no hard feelings", so to me it seems like a lame excuse. It would be interessting to read a update on the story, but offcourse thats all up to bbcsamui.

I asked here since he does not update his website with new info ... please tell him to do so :o quite a few which follow this "case" :D

what do you all think about the food and service at BBC? Any good? :o

i had dinner there last july , if i hadnt read this thread then i wouldnt have known there were squatters next door.

its a decent enough restaurant in a great setting , the service was slow but friendly and the food not bad at all , although my wifes thai dish was "watered down" to western tastes as it is in many places that serve tourists.

How ironic.

I had to interview Samui's 'mayor' a few days ago to ghost write a press release for him to use the upcoming tourism expo ITB 2010 in Germany. Here are some of the points he wants to make public to promote Samui.

Quotes:

“As well as Samui having many different things to do and experience, there are countless places on the island where the beauty of the environment is breathtaking.”

“I am working closely with Samui’s branch of the THA to maintain and raise environmental standards. Programs of training are in place with hotel staff to re-cycle waste products and conserve energy and we have an active education program in many of the local schools, and are developing and extending this.”

“Our aim is not only to conserve Samui’s natural beauty, but to actively promote the island as one of the most scenic holiday destinations in the world, and to encourage visitors to experience it for themselves.”

Only one problem to these grand ideas - some of the Thai people who live here and couldn't give a sh*t.

It means the owner is moving on as a good business man would do.

He has opened a new restaurant nearby called the Dancing Crab offering not only the same varied menu that was available in the BBC, but also a new menu specialising in some excellent fish and seafood dishes. Why not give it a try?

The old BBC has now been completely demolished with a new larger restaurant currently being built on the old site but with much improved facilities.

The squatters are still there and, I believe, still the itch he can't scratch, but in reality insignificant in the wider scale of events.

And no.......I have no connection with the BBC but I admire and respect the owners resolve and detemination to build a successful business on Samui for himself and his family.

As far as I know, yes and with more facilities such as a private function room and extra kitchen area.

Of course the "best sunset on the island" will still be there but available on two floors.

Would love to hear your description of what you mean by 'locale mafia'.

This topic was about squatters. It came to an end basically by the OP"s decision not to pursue it on the forum.

Now we get a new member ( I Doubt it ), reviving an old thread ( dormant for 9 months ). For what purpose, I don't know, since all the answers are there & he simply had to read it.

Now the discussion has veered way off topic ( deleted several posts ) ,with no further input from the OP, it's simply useless as it's only speculation.

If you guys want to start a topic about the legality of buildings on Samui's shoreline or otherwise, please get the relevant information & start a new thread, it has nothing to do with this topic.
