While we are at it, let’s look at the fine stipulated by the Immigration Act for the failure of an arriving foreigner to report the address to the local police:

Section 76 : Any alien, alien, who fails to comply with the provisions of Section 37(2),(3),(4)or(5) shall be

punished with a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht and with and additional fine not exceeding 200 Baht for

each day which passes until the law is complied with.

And this requirement of reporting to the local police station applies to all arriving foreigners except those entering Thailand for “touring” or “sporting”. We better be careful to check the right box on the arrival card.

Since no form exists for the notification to the local police station I think it would be a good idea for ThaiVisa to create a template for the use of its members, in Thai language. I would propose the following text for translation:

***

To the competent officer

of the local police station

___________________

In compliance with Section 37(3) of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522, quoted below, I herewith wish to notify the police official of the local police station as follows:

1. My name is ___________________________________

2. I arrived in the Kingdom on ______________________

3. I reside at the following address: __________________________________________________________________

I enclose copy of the pages from my passport giving information about my person and the arrival stamp.

_________________

Signature

Extract from Immigration Act B.E. 2522:

Section 37 : An alien having received a temporary entry permit into the Kingdom must comply with the following :

...

3. Shall notify the police official of the local police station where such alien resides, within twenty – four hours from the time of arrival. In the case of change in residence in which new residence is not located the same area with the former police stations , such alien must notify the police official of the police station for that area within twenty – four hours from the time of arrival.

Receipt confirmed:

Stamp and signature of local police station:

***

To be submitted in two copies, one copy to be signed and returned by the police station

I think it would be best to forget the whole idea and let sleeping dogs lie. Nobody wants the added reporting requirements of this old rule. :o

On second thought, I agree with Lopburi to let sleeping dogs lie. Anyway, contrary to what I believed there is an official form and anybody insisting on making the report to the local police can download it from the pinned topic at the to of this forum. It is

TM.28 Form for Aliens to Notify Their Change of Address or Their Stay in the Province over 24 Hours

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?au...amp;showfile=15

George pointed me to it.

Hey Lopburi, correct me please if I am wrong, but I don't think the dog is sleeping anymore. If you don't report your arrival and then subsequently need a letter or similar from imigration, judging by the posts in this thread, you get slapped with a fine, in Hua Hin at least. :o
