Visa Run

Hi

I am holidaying in the Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai region later this month and I will need to get another 30day stamp in the passport, can you tell me if there is a visa run service in either city and what border post is used up there. I am holidaying with my family so would rather pay for a service to ensure no hassles/delays during my holiday

any help or advice, contact numbers names etc much appreciated

From Chiang Rai you can drive to the border,Mai Sai ( 1hour 30 minutes), get a bus (leaving every30 minutes), or hire a van and driver for the day(1500baht-2000baht a day), could take in some other tours as well).

Cross the border at Mai Sai into Burma, pay 10 dollars, go shopping or just come straight back again.

If you want a van and driver p.m me.

You can go to Mae Sai, about 70 km to the north of Chiang Rai. Visa (one day) for Myanmar cost THB 500. When you like the market across you can go there to the right...."sigarets, viagra Sir????". Drives me crazy....therefore we always go to the left across the border: it is a quiet walk. After 15 minutes we always go back to cross the border and do some shopping on the market in Mae Sai or have a coffee at Doi Chaang (near the monument of Most Northern of Thailand). Nice people and they sell even CD's and DVD's for good prices.

I had to laugh when I read your reply about the cigarette/viagra hawkers. They drive me nuts, also!

I just returned from Mae Sai yesterday, for a 30 day stamp run across the border, and got to practice my 'frustration tolerance' for a few hours while my Thai friend shopped till she dropped.

Like several other posters have already stated, the Thailand/Myanmar border seems as calm as ever, despite the recent problems in Myanmar. In fact, there were almost no non-asian tourists there (I avoid the f****g word, since it is essentially racist) and getting through immigration was a breeze.

I recommend taking some time to look around Mae Sai, away from the border as it is a nice little town, in my opinion.

Take care!

Yeah, I like Mae Sai. There's a nice little market complex on the left as you approach the border that I can usually while away a couple of hours in. My Mrs is like you though Sigmund, once she has what she came for she wants to go. <deleted>*k shopping around!

On the left??? We always go to the left because it is quiet overthere.... never noticed a nice little market complex. I do know the one on the right.....since then never came there again!

On the left? On the Western side?

Drive straight to the "gate" and go down the lane past immigration and turn left. There's parking there and plenty of small shops if you walk further west and than turn left.

Oh yes, now I understand you....I know that market, it is nice! But this is still in Mae Sai (Thailand) not across the border. When you cross the border than you have the challenge / problem as described in other posts..... :o

Every now and again <someone> comes on here and starts on about spelling words or how you spell a town's name.

As long as you don't get lost what does it matter. Mae sounds the same as Mai to me. I just spell it as it is in my map book.

Actually my Mrs says Mee Sai and I say My Sai, but what does she know.

There's a Geordie in CM who says toon but everyone knows it's spelled town. :o
