Is there an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Surin?

If there is one then which train station does it depart from?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mac.wheeler

I live in Surin and know there definetly is a night train to/from BKK. It takes 7 hours and goes from Who Lam Poong Station(sorry bout spelling) wife says its the major station in BKK. Maybe a call to BFG at the Farang Connection (link above) will be worth your while. He will know details.

If no good, you could always do it in 35minutes using PB Air from Sawanapoom (ditto)

Be advised that PB Air do not fly to Surin. They fly to Buriram airport, some 40 kilometers north of Buriram and 90 kilometers from Surin. It is unlikely that you will find taxis waiting outside the airport. Ground transport needs to be arranged in advance, e.g. through the Farang Connection.

Yes there is a sleeper train from HUA LAMPONG the main train station in Bangkok.

I believe it leaves at approx 8.00 pm. And I think it arrives at about 4.15 am. As the sleeper train takes slightly longer than the day-time express.

Take nomads advice above for the flights, as you will need to arrange transport from Satuk airport to get to Surin, as it is basically in the middle of no-where.

Unfortunately that's the problem if you don't book up early it is very difficult to get a bed. Who says the thai's have no money (there's always plenty of them willing to pay for the sleeper train).

On the bright side, the last time I found myself in your position when I got the 9.50PM train it was virtually empty.

So all you need to do is turn the seat in front of you around and you can stretch across them. Not as comfortable as a bed but the next best thing.

Have a nice journey, good luck.

No it doesn't; there is a limousine service. What sort of vehicle the limousines are I don't know nor can I remember the prices which are displayed on a board. I believe there are vans available too. I've never had the need for either, though I'm sure someone else must have used them. Always good to know though in case of an emergency.

If there is a limousine service you must have to book it in advance, I have seen taxis or mini-buses waiting for people but I have also seen the place totally deserted.

There is definatelly no taxi or limousine service at hand when you arrive.

I'll go with nomad on this one, that's why the FC offer a shuttle service.

Any other travellers, don't be fooled. If you expect a taxi/courier service from Buriram/Satuk airport it is best to make arrangements.

As the last time a friend of mine done this, he hitched a ride from a few villagers heading in the direction of Buriram.

And found his way from there.

I'm not saynig there isn't a service, BUT, there cetainly isn't one there waiting for you!!!

In fact the biggest problem is that if you jump in a mini-bus operated by the Airport, it is very likely that they will have a Burirum town drop off first. They will not tell you this, just drop you in Surin about three hours later. It has happened to a few of our customers, who think our service is a tad on the heavy side, and want to get the cost down. Quite funny really. But as in most places, you only get what you pay for. Most have vowed to call us first in future. Also, if you DO want a private service from the Airport, it is exactly the sasme price as us anyway.

Thanks folks.

The 8pm sleeper was full unfortunately so I'm booked on the 9:50pm with a normal seat, I'm not looking forward to it :o

I did the ride a few times to srisaket, travelling 2nd class, 1st class, and the sprinter. all at night and day time. the one I loved most was 2nd class, open window, enjoying the landscape and interaction with the locals at the stations, we stopt. Unfortunally the wife only likes to travell first class night train, with airco that makes you feel sleeping in a freezer.

take 2nd class , you will love it
