i am an MBA student in singapore.

i need a few pieces of information for a group assignment i am doing. i have searched high and low on the net for it, but i failed to find a suitable site. or maybe i overlooked it. i have also written from my official college mail-id, to the Thai ministry of education and the Thai consulate in Singapore but to no avail.

please give me the following information. it would help immensely helpful if you could also state the source of the information, since our course requires us to cite references for all information we use.

How much (more or less) monthly/annual salary do teachers in pre-primary (i.e. kindergarten) schools in Bangkok get??

Whats the market demand like for Pri-primary school teachers in Bangkok? (this one is not so important)

Whats the minimum required qualification (for ex, graduate and/or English medium educated) for pre-primary school teachers in Bangkok/Thailand??

What are the criteria to be met to be allowed to set up a pre-primary school in Bangkok/Thailand.

Any information will be welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I've worked as a Pre-school teacher in Bangkok for a few years. I'll try to answer your quesitons as best I can. You may want to try the other Thail teacher's forum - www.ajarn.com for more responses.

Salary: Depends on success of school, but generally a western teacher can expect to earn upwards of about 40,000 baht a month, while a Thai teacher would earn about half that amount.

Market Demand: There is a high demand for western female teachers when it comes to pre-schools. Parents want thier children to start speaking English from a young age and feel more comfortable with females teaching such young children.

Minimum qualifications: Generally a degree in any subject and perhaps a TEFL would get you the necessary paperwork, but I've also seen pre-school teachers that have got the job with lesser qualifications such as an NVQ in childcare, as the authorities don't seemt to know the difference. However, restrictions are tightening recently and it may soon be impossible to work as a teacher at all in Thailand without a degree in Education.

Criteria for Setting up a Pre-school: This I don't really know much about, but would love to if you get any further info on it. I've heard to set up any business, you need 51% Thai ownership, a board of govenors/directors and all sorts of other red tape.

Hope this helps.
