Man cheats death after he sustains a Centipede bite.

Centipede.jpg

On Wednesday Night, Rescue Workers received an urgent call to attend to a Thai Man, Khun Mongkong aged 31, who had become seriously ill after sustaining a bite from a large Centipede. The man was walking around the back of his house and was wearing only sandals. It was dark and he suddenly felt a sharp pain on his right ankle and realized he had been bitten. He soon lost consciousness and his breathing became shallow. He was rushed to the Queen Sirigit Hospital and we can report he was given drugs to counteract the affects of the bite and he is now expected to fully recover from the ordeal.

Talk about dramatic reporting.

If you read the full article where you found that photo you'll discover that deaths from Centipede bites are extremely rare:

"Some species are highly venomous and often produce very painful bites but only one human death has ever been recorded - from a bite on the head of a young child by a large centipede on a Pacific island - though severe reactions have also occasionally been recorded in adults.

There was a story in the Straits Times last year about a Malaysian woman died from a centipede bite. Belive she died from internal bleeding due to an allergic reaction.

I realise that some people can have allergic reactions to various bites thereby putting their lives at risk, but this article leads one to believe that the centipede is deadly.

It's on a par with the "jellyfish attacks tourist" reports.

Got bitten by one.....it was painful and red for a while....GF rubbed tiger balm on it and it was fine after about 2 days.....Allergic reaction I would think required him being in that state. Come to think of it....he was walking in the dark....does he know what really bit him ???
