Many thanks for your help. I now have another question regarding your reference to the futility of applying for jobs locally by email. You mention that the topic has been discussed extensively. Does the website have an archive where this discussion might repose?

Otherwise I take that if I am interested in a local job I should present myself in the hopes of having a chat with a manager. Are phone calls useful in this regard? I went into the local office of a European engineering firm on Wireless Road on speculation to enquire about making an application and the receptionist was not very helpful. I did manage to come away with an email address for an HR person that was worthless.

What can you suggest regarding applying to newspaper adverts? Are farang applications handled the same way as locals? If 'Thai national' is not specified can one assume the position is open to a farang willing to work for a local salary?

Today may be your lucky day! There are some power related SE Asia positions available on this website!

Let me know if it takes you where you want.

Briefly, some HR only speak Thai, so they will delete your email without a flutter of their eyelids or a swivel of their chair.

Also farang are judged and executed without a fair trial or interview in our case, others here can answer this much better than I.

Afaik every topic is still online here from the launch, just read around, good luck.

Thanks for your advice Mr Daz. The website you indicate looks interesting and I will notify you if I get a bite from applying to the listed positions.

I'm still in the dark regarding applying for local jobs that come up in the BKK Post, for example. Seems to me that if a position is advertised in English then the associated HR people should be able to handle applications in English. Whether or not the position is available to farang applicants is another matter. Expats wanting an expat salary would make about 10X what the local counterpart would make. When 'Thai national' is not specified it's hard to tell what the employer is looking for. Anyone know of a situation where an expat agreed to work for a local company, agreed salary and benefits then get burned?

All the best

Hi Robert, I understand that you are interested in SE Asia region. If it is a English speaking region that you want, then I would recommend you Kuala Lumpur or even Penang. English is very widely spoken here. You will be surprised to know that the English educated Chinese here speak English with one another daily, plus Chinese of course. I being Chinese speak English with my wife, also a Chinese. We speak English more than Chinese. It may sound funny to you, but it is a common scenario here. Of course, Malay Language is the official language of this country. Of all SE Asia countries, Malaysia and Singapore speak English daily as if it is the second language. Our TV is in English, in Chinese and in Malay of course. Best of luck to you.

Hi Robert, Some extra facts to be added from above.

Most of the legal contracts here are written in English. If there are two versions (conflict of laws), then the English version shall prevail. In certain High Court cases..... the proceedings can be conducted in English, with special permission of course. TV daily news are also in English, Chinese and Malay. Most of the TV programs/shows are in English. Any more info, please ask, I will be most happy to help.

Regards,
