Retaining Unused Days On A Tourist Visa.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

If within the beginning of a 60 day Tourist Visa, I do a side trip to another country, then I return to Thailand. I understand I will forfeit the first 30 days of my Tourist Visa and the next 30 days of the visa will be activated.

There is something I can acquire at the airport (for a fee) to retain the 2nd 30 day and reacquire whatever days were remaining on the first 30 days of my TV before I left.

What is this called and where (at the new airport) can I apply for this when going to immigration?

Do I apply for this when I return from my side trip or before I leave?

Note: I will stay in thailand for just 1 day when my visa is activated, So I would like to get the 29 unused days.

Thanks.

Tom.

I believe you will "loose" the remaining 59 days unless you obtain a re-entry permit at immigration before you leave.

Without re-entry p. you will get 30 days whitout visa when you return. ( depends on where you are from )

what you could do is to do your first entry not using your visa, and "save" the visa for your 2nd enry, and then recieve 60 days. IF your visa is still valid.

You have two options

1. On arrival do not fill in visa information on arrival card and request immigration stamp you in for 30 day visa exempt entry - then use your visa on return from trip. This usually works but official could require you to use the visa.

2. If you use the visa obtain a re-entry permit prior to departure from Thailand - on return you enter that information in your arrival card and continue the normal previous permitted to stay until date and can later request a normal extension of stay if you wish.

Thanks all for your help.

I will probably use option 2 (getting a re-entry permit) since immigration will probably force me to use my Tourist Visa.

I will be arriving in Suvarnabhumi airport at 12:00am midnight.

Can you tell me where exactly should I walk (floor) within the airport to get the re-entry permit?

Is it after I pass thru immigration, to where I obtain me luggage?

Sorry for sounding so dunce, but my flight there will leave in 5 hours to Cambodia and I would like to keep the tourist visa active.

Thanks.

Tom.

I am not sure of the location in the new airport,

but you must obtain the re-entry permit BEFORE you leave Thailand.

From the last line of you latest post, I wonder if you need worry at all.

You appear to be in Transit in Bangkok and will not pass through immigration.

You just go to the Transfer desk for the airline providing your onward flight.

And that depends on whether his airline has a transit desk. Some don't, especially the budget ones. Plus if he cannot check his luggage through to his final destination then he will need to clear customs to get his luggage.

I would try this and see what happens. worked for me

Hi Tom

What passport do you hold?

Which Airline will you arrive on?

Which Airline are you on to Cambodia?

Your BEST bet is IF you can book your Luggage to

Cambodia with the First Airline

AND if you can get your Boarding Card to Cambodia in the Transit Lounge

Then - No need to worry about any Thai Visa - No Immigration.

But as has already been said - THAT scenario might not be possible

Last time I passed thru Suvarnabhumi

Re-Entry permits were available at a Desk at the Far right Hand side of the

Immigration Hall - you go to that Desk BEFORE going thru Immigration

But you have to Enter the Hall - beyond the Passengers only gates

Having said that - it was only a Desk - which might now have been moved to

a more permanent "Office" - So I suggest you confirm with the

staff at the Immigration Hall entrance before you enter

The Re-enty Permit is Bht 1,900 for Single entry

Bht 3,800 for multiple entry - both types are valid to the same date as your

"must Leave by date" - this assumes you have used your Tourist Visa on your first entry

But to avoid all that your second best bet - is at least to TRY asking for the

30 day visa exempt stamp on your First entry - assuming you hold a passport that qualifies for 30 days.

AND you must check that your Tourist Visa expiry date is not earlier than your Second entry

if THAT is when you will use it.

Thanks Bill.

I will try asking immigration for a 30 day stamp upon arrival at the airport. Seems like the consensus here is they may allow this. To answer you’re above questions.

I am American.

Will be traveling from New York to Thailand on Cathy Pacific Airways.

Departing to Cambodia on Thai Airways. But since I am making reservations online, I will need to pick-up my Thai Airways ticket at the airport.

Thanks.

Tom.

Thai Airways is a full fare carrier and you should be able to check in and receive boarding pass at origin. You should receive an e-ticket and that would be all you need. Are you saying Thai will not provide an e-ticket for on-line purchase? If not Thai should have representation at transit lounge that can provide. If you have bags it is really easier to check through when you can.

If you need to transfer I am sure immigration will stamp you for 30 days and not use your tourist visa if you can show them your outbound plans.

Last time I passed through Suvarnabhumi airport the re-entry permit was 1000 Bht. There was a sign saying allow 40(?) minutes for the application, but they took 10 minutes for me.
