Coverting Non-o To Non-b

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am soon to be starting a new business venture, which will require a work permit - this has all been hammered out and agreed to, so I don't need any advice on the wp thanks.

My question is this:

I have been told to get a work permit I must convert my 12 month non immigrant 'o' visa to a non immi 'b'. (My visa is only 1 month old)

Is this correct? And if so how do I do it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you usually need a non-Imm B to work, and can't usually do so on non-Imm O. Following link has been around for a while on Thai Visa on getting Non-ImmB and WP

Not sure if you can change O to B. Best place to ask would be of course Immigration. I do know when I changed employers a while back I had to cancel one non-Imm B, cancel the WP. Then leave Thailand, get a new Non-Imm B and apply for new WP with a new employer. So I'd expect them to say something similar for changing O to B. Don't know if that has changed tho.

moved to the visa section, but my understanding (given my wife did it) is that is possible to get a work permit off a non-o visa, if you are married to a Thai national.

A work permit may be issued on a non immigrant O visa.

A big advantage of an O visa over a B visa is that when you change jobs, only the work permit is cancelled, not the visa.

A Non Imm B visa is not cancelled. Only the extension of stay is.

OK, your marriage extension (of the type O) is not cancelled when you lose your job :o

You don't need to change your visa type to get a WP, a type O (NOT an O-A [retirement]) will do just fine

I've had a work permit for 14 years now using a NON-ED.
