meadish_sweetball
I enjoy going to the movies, and a wide variety of cinematic styles, of which Hollywood and commercial Thai cinema are only two. Back in farangland I used to be a member of a cinema enthusiast society that would look for more obscure movies to provide some diversity. What are my options here in CM - apart from the obvious ones of buying/downloading online and watching at home? Are there any public or private theatres that specialize in alternative/art cinema, any clubs? I remember having seen flyers for an EU film festival, but that's about it. I seem to recall the Alliance Francaise and Goethe Institute in Bangkok showing French and German film, respectively. Are they established here in CM as well? Nienke
Alliance Francaise Yes, Goethe Institute don't know. If I recall well there are announcements in the Citylife as well as the Chiang Mai Mail about AF's movies. Nienke
p1p
Alliance Francaise on Charoen Prathet road always used to host films on a regular basis. As far as I know they still do.

chobthum
Please check the CMU Art Center, on Ninnamahaeminda They used to host on Sathurday evening. I am not sure if they still have it right now.
Sledge71
Sounds like an opportunity for the marketing genius Chas.. Seriously though ! My local boozer in Oz had a monthly cult cinema night - it got quite a good turn out on a regular basis. Get with it T.

At least until recently, Alliance Francaise had films every Friday night at 8, many with English subtitles. Also check these web sites: http://www.city-now.com/cinema.php http://www.chiangmaitouristguide.com/filmpage.html If you find other information, please post. Thanks.
