Hi i was wandering if anyone could help me. I am from Australia. Last year I travelled to Thailand on a one way ticket. My boyfriend, who is South Afrian just went over and wasn't alowed to board the plane with out a ticket out of Thailand. Does anyone know if the rules have changed? Do i need a return ticket? i can't find any straight answers online! Thanks for your helpx

LCJ,

From all acounts here, if you do NOT have a Visa in your passport, (ie you plan to get Visa-exempt entry) the airlines may refuse to allow you to board on the grounds that Thai Immigration may refuse you entry. In that case the airline may be stuck with you!

You either need a ticket OUT of Thailand within 30 days of entry OR a Visa. This is actually quite an old rule but it never used to be enforced - now apparently it is!

You need an onward ticket for travel to Thailand without a visa. Although immigration does not normally check this closely (they can and do on occasion) the airlines often do not allow travel without it.
