Train From Bangkok To Butterworth

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there is an overnight sleeper to Butterworth. If there if there is a daily service, departure time, price (1st class cabin) etc etc.

Thanks!

:o Yes.......been many years since I took that. Used to do visa runs.

1. 2nd class sleeper used to be better deal than 1st class as price difference wasn't worth the extra cost.

2. Try to get lower bunk, as upper bunk has air-conditioner blowing in and can get cold without a good warm blanket.

3. Personally I would bring your my own food as meals were poor and took long time to prepare.

But that was many years ago, so maybe service has changed?

:D

Agree the lower berth is best and quite wide - the new 2nd class rail cars are a lot more quiet than the old models they replaced. For me 1st class was harder to sleep as you are across rails and every stop rolls you. Also do not believe the carriage proceeds past Hat Yai you you have to move to seats there. The meals very by the contract provider - some years it is good and others bad - it has not been provided by SRT for many years.
