a few times i found on doggies poo poo some worm egg or part which i cannot find a pic of on the net.

it is T shaped, pink-red and moving, it seems the upper part of the T is where it will suck on the intestine wall or uses it to move further.

tape worm eggs are white and different shape as far as i know.

anyone knows?

It sounds like some sort of flat worm (planaria). Tape worm eggs look more like rice grains. The 'T' is classic shape for a planarian.

I agree, I have never heard of them as parasites, but I am not an expert. Is it possible they were just attracted to the poo?

it came out of the dogs rear. looked a bit like a tiny leech and the front with the top of the T moving around was used to move forward and got sucked on the ground, maybe also on intestine wall. perhaps the redish colour from blood it sucked before, who knows.

My best bet is hookworm, Ancylostoma caninum or A. braziliense.

From Parasites of dogs by MSD AGVET, Division of Merck & Co., Inc.:

These worms are red or grey, depending on whether or not blood is present in their digestive tracts. A. caninum is up to 16 mm long and has 3 pairs of prominent teeth in its mouth area. A. braziliense has two pairs of teeth and is up to 10 mm in length. The hookworm lay stronyle-type eggs.

A. caninum infects only dogs, A. braziliense infects dogs and cats.

Location: small intestines. The eggs can enter by being eaten, by skin penetration, or by penetrating a rodent host that is subsequently eaten. Eggs that has entered tjhe bodu by skin penetration can lie dormant in muscle tissue.

Geographical distribution: A. caninum is found in temperate climates worldwide. A. braziliense infects dogs in tropical and sub-tropical areas.

Significance: Hookworms are very important canine parasites, which causes many deaths in dogs of all ages.

actually the worm on the pic whose link i posted looks like the arrow headed flatworm on your site. the thing i found has only the head shape in common with this worm, it was very short, about 4mm and redish colour, not long like a worm.

I think it's a tape worm, Echinococcus granulosus , 0.3-0.6 cm lenght . The T-shape that you saw is scolex. You can not see worm eggs by naked eyes.

About the pink coloured, i think it was from blood.

thanks bambina, i think it must have been a tapeworm, and then the head part (scolex), though did not see the round mouth, only a sucker with which it moved around and could move further.

if it sucked blood is it very bad??!

which is the best deworming for this bugger? and use for how many days, repeat?

thanks

Praziquantel (but should not be used in puppies and kittens younger than 4 and 6 weeks respectively)

- give the drug after meal

Dog 5-10 mg/kg

Cat 20 mg/cat

you can repeat the treatment in next 4 weeks.

On the other hand, you have to eradicate the intermediate host of tapeworm aswell such as as flea (for Dipylidium caninum) and rodents (for Echinococcus granulosus)

though did not see the round mouth

you are not able to see the round mouth,a prominent rostellum, armed with a double row of between 30 and 36 hooks , by naked eyes. You have to see it through a microscope.

Aha, mistery solved at my place. Had a dog in where these yekkie things were crawling in his poo. Got the feces checked at the vet, who only saw hookworm eggs (hence my guess it was hookworm). Got a deworm. 2 weeks later same problem. Again deworm. Couple of weeks later again same problem. Changed deworm pills. Still problem not solved. Saw a huge tapeworm out of the butt from his housemate. Both got dewormed for tapeworm, since no yekkie crawling creatures in his poo anymore.

well done nienke :o

was the deworming for tapeworm also pills or was it an injection?

and were the red coloured as well?

thanks bambina, will give them pills containing praziquantel. this very dog had flea after he had been at the vet for castration, i killed the flea the next day when i saw them, but must already have given him the tapeworm eggs. also a few days later i saw one flea at two other dogs and also they got flea powder. now i will deworm all my dogs - who knows which one has the worms...
