Any shops, hopefully in the south. Specialising in African Cichlids. To the uniniciated a species of fish. eg Pla Nin Nile Tilapia, although I'm obviously thinking aquariums. Mainly I want Pelviachromis (Kribensis) types.

I think in most parts of Thailand you can get African cichlids from Lake Malawi and Victoria. For Tanganyikans then Bangkok at JJ market is a good source.

For Pelvaichromis then you will be out of luck outside Bangkok, where even in JJ market it is hard to find them. Fish like that tend to come in maybe a couple of times a year, which is a shame because they are one of the nicest aquarium fish you can buy.

There are a few more specialist shops in parts of Bangkok that may help you, let me know if you are interested and I will try to get the names/addresses for you. Saw a beautiful pair of L. Curviceps at one of them, a fish so common to buy in the UK but sadly hardly ever seen here.

Thanks, We have a good shop in town, but most of the cichlids are of the big types. 30cm and up. Plus the standard Angels and Discus varieties. However the other day I saw some M. Ramirezi, so I'm going to settle for them. They are the bluer version of the wild types.

I've being a big Krib fan since I 1st started keeping fish. I amost always had a pair. I was amazed at how they practically split a 100 gallon tank in 2 when they had young. You don't need me to tell you who had the lions share of the tank. Never had any trouble getting rid of Krib offspring.

First fish I ever had were Kribs. Rams are beautiful too though!

I just did a search on pelvicachromis thailand, and got some good results. I'll take my book down to the shop, and see what transpires. Kribs and Taeniatus are availble for export, so they must be available to local shops.

I have noticed that there are a lot of exported fish available that you don't often see at the usual shops. I would like to visit one myself.

If you get to Bangkok check out the fish shops around Seacon Square on Srinakarin road, a few more specialist suppliers there. Can't remember names and exact locations though but Thailand does have a magazine AQUARIST (I think) which although is in Thai has a lot of ads/web addresses for decent fish shops in the country.

I moved on to Betta myself, they really are a treat to source out here. :o

Are you guys aware of Sanam Luang 2 market? It's is out on Tawwee Rattana Rd between Buddhamontol Sai 3 and Sai 4. There are hundreds of aquatic fish stalls, and a lot of dealers that exclusively stock cichlids. You should take a look.

I had to go into town today, and showed the pics of what I wanted to the girls there. They will let me know. I've seen Kribs and P. Taeniatus offered for export, so they must be available to the home market.

A coincidence.? I used to get a monthly mag in the Uk called The Aquarist. :o Also the TFH from the USA

TFH was a great mag, decent long articles (is there an online version of it? I will have to check). Aquarist was good too, as was PFK at one time before they started adding more adverts than information in it. And what articles they had were recycled every 6 months!
