Jai Dee
Policeman shot after truck heist Bandits hold up armoured van, get away with Bt22m in cash Three robbers stole Bt22.8 million from an armoured cash transporter in Bangkok yesterday, and nearly killed a policeman in a gunfight after they fled the scene. Two security officers who manned the truck operated by Siam Administrative Manage-ment Co (Samco), said they were approached by two robbers while transporting money from their vehicle to a Siam Commercial Bank branch in Lat Krabang district. One robber drew a gun and forced them to lie down while the other threw bags of money into a waiting grey Toyota Altis sedan driven by a third man. The three bandits fled in the sedan, while a policeman chased it briefly before firing three shots at the car. Another policeman rushed to intercept the car at a turn 500 metres away near a railway crossing. Pol Sergeant Aran Daengamphol was shot twice - one struck his right knee and the other scratched his neck - when an armed robber returned fire from the fleeing vehicle. The stolen money had been withdrawn from Siam Commercial Bank's headquarters near the Ratchayothin Intersection. Eight bags contained Bt18.3 million. Another Bt4.5 million snatched in the heist was packed in many bundles. Witnesses told police the armed robber wore a black jacket, a pair of khaki pants, and had crew-cut hair. The sedan's licence plate number, which police said was probably fake, was Sor Sala-Jor Jarn 1764, and registered in Bangkok. Witnesses said they had seen the sedan parked at the scene long before the truck arrived. Police said both Siam Commercial Bank and Samco employees would be interviewed about whether they had provided inside information to the robbers. Metropolitan Police chief Lt-General Assawin Khwanmueng said he had asked officers in Provincial Police Region 2, who have jurisdiction over Bangkok's eastern districts, where the robbers appeared to head, to alert patrols to find the sedan or the thieves. He also instructed police at all 88 stations in Bangkok to watch out for any further hold-ups at gold shops, banks, or especially petrol stations or convenience stores that operate 24 hours. Three robbers made off with 18.3 million baht from the truck yesterday. Three armed men held up a Siam Commercial Bank cash delivery truck in broad daylight in Bangkok yesterday and fled with 18.3 million baht in cash. They shot and wounded a policeman who tried to stop them as they fled in a bronze Toyota Altis sedan. Scott
Oh, oh. Some years back there was a guy who pulled a big robbery and then he said he burned the money to keep warm as it was cold. These guys should have a warm, cozy cool season. Now, anybody know was 18 or 22 million--big discrepency.

Scott
Thanks Jai Dee, now I don't have to be sarcastic and insinuate that it was 18 million, but by the time the delivery guys and police left, it was 22 million!

kmart
I would imagine that in true "armed robbery" style (I used to watch "The Sweeney") that the guards and driver might be the first people that the cops speak to...

AlexLah
Ok all I think I got it. The report says it was a Toyota Altis SEDAN! It must not be that difficult to trace the car and the owner as most Altis are coupe, right? It is very rare to see an Altis sedan........... sriracha john
Police are tracing truck-heist gunman Police know one of the three robbers who made off with Bt22.8 million in a security-truck heist on Thursday and are now tracing him, a senior investigator said yesterday. The only armed robber, who was seen by many witnesses, had been involved in three robberies in the past few years, two of which involved Siam Administrative Management (Samco). Police said they had no clue who the two other robbers were. Pol Maj-General Amnuay Nimmano, chief of Metropolitan Police Division 3, who is leading the investigation, said Thursday's heist and two other Samco truck robberies had been inside jobs by former Samco employees. He said the first robbery had been of a truck company named Brink near Fashion Island Mall in the Bang Chan area. Police released a sketch of the man, who they said was 1.75-1.8 metres tall and 35-40 years of age with a fair complexion. Amnuay said the two Samco employees who were driving the truck on Thursday, Winai Phetwaree and Manop Mooldee, were innocent. Police interviewed them for several hours on Thursday night and checked their records. They had neither debts nor criminal records, he said. A woman later turned up to protest her innocence, saying the licence plate attached to the Toyota Altis sedan used by the three robbers was actually registered in her name. - The Nation ============================= The other 2 are unknown... best to check to see if that Finn is still in custody.... sriracha john
Interesting BP graphic: Police identify cash delivery van robbers Police have identified three robbers who shot a police officer and made off with 22 million baht in cash from a cash delivery truck in Bangkok's Lat Krabang district on Thursday. Police yesterday released sketches of the suspects and are gathering evidence before applying to the court for arrest warrants, said Metropolitan Police Division 3 chief Amnuay Nimmano. A sketch of one robbery suspect released by police yesterday. The drawings were made based on testimony by more than 10 witnesses and footage from surveillance cameras near the crime scene in front of a Siam Commercial Bank branch near King Mongkut's University of Technology's Lat Krabang campus. The three are aged from 35 to 40 and are 175 to 180 cm tall. Pol Maj-Gen Amnuay said police knew their identity and believed they had committed similar crimes before. The escape vehicle had been modified as a racing-style sedan, said police. One of the car's tyres was hit by bullets fired by police. The robbers continued on for about four kilometres, then stopped to change the tyre and resumed their escape. Indeed that's something to rival Michael Schumacher's Ferrari pit crew: Nonsense!! A full Ferrari pit team can change all 4 tyres in 15 seconds. Funny that. I was sitting at a red light in Belfast a load of years back, and not only had the thieving wee bastards had my 4 hubcaps, they also had the spare tyre out of the boot, my windscreen wipers and my briefcase on the front passenger seat all in under 10 seconds!! BEAT THAT, SCHUMACHER!! Edited December 2, 2007 by Big A

cm-happy
TITV news story last night(Fri 14 Dec) about this robbery. Seems the truck driver was an accomplice, working with Thai army officers. Similar heist took place and police caught culprits and think that the same gang is involved, except this time no one was shot or injured. Sorry no other references other than news story on TITV.
