Man falls to death from 64th floor of Bangkok condominium

An unidentified man, believed to be a foreigner, jumped to his death from the 64th floor of the 68-floor State Tower Condominium early Friday, police said.

Police said the apparent suicide happened at 2 am in Bangkok's Yannawa district.

The man could not yet be identified but police believe he was a foreigner from an Asian country.

Witnesses told police that he saw the man jumped from the 64th floor and landed on the rain-protection wall of a three-storey shop house.

Lots of Japs come to thailand to commit suicide. even a friend of mine that works at the Vertigo Bar @ Banyan Tree hotel rooftop.. a japanese guy jumped off while she was on her shift.

Japan used to have the worlds highest suicide rates,, (not sure if it still holds that record),, there are several websites in japan where people can meet -up and plan their suicide pact together. (lets put it down to japans introvert & pressureised way of life,, parents dont have the 'know how' or infomation on how to deal with their teenage kids problems. (sorry, off subject). anyway, it wouldnt suprise me if it was a japanese guy.. its not uncommon. (usually a gambling debt or terminal illness).

(side story: when I was in japan several years ago, a nurse friend of mine at an international hospital said that she was on duty in a cancer ward. a wife was visiting her husband. she came to the nurses and asked why her husband was not in his bed. all the nurses looked for him, (under the bed, in the toilet etc),,, someone checked out the window and he was lying on the ground below.. (he jumped). But,, here is the shocker.... what did the hospital do? they ran downstairs and put him on a stretcher and carried him back up to his bed. (they presumed that since it was just 1 or 2 floors high that he wasnt injured and they DID NOT x-ray or check him!!!) they just put him back in bed as if nothing had happened!!! he died a short while later (i'm guessing of internal injuries).. absolutely amazing how they didnt check him and that they stuck him straight back to bed!!

- anyway.. thats just ONE of many many many stories on how Sh*t the japanese hospitals and doctors are!!

PS: I'm suprised that the guy in this bangkok suicide story wasnt found naked! seems most foreigners that are found dead in thailand are usually naked !!

I am OK with people having this ultimate choice. But jumping is rude, you could kill other people or traumatize children and Canadians, and you make the Thai government officials spend money to clean up the mess that could have been better used buying viagra to buy votes.

I know I am a shameless liberal but I would like to see a legal, legitimate medical way for people to be able to do this in a clean, safe (to others) and painless way. Jumping is not a painless way.

I believe the Thai news media said he was a farang.

The OP says this though

"The man could not yet be identified but police believe he was a foreigner from an Asian country."

Canadians? Why just Canadians? :o

I agree with you and I have seen this happened quite a few times. Very selfish way!

Now talking about a painless way, I know how. It is a very common way nowadays here in HK but talking about it I think is against forum rules. Do a google search yourself.

Witnesses told police that he saw the man jumped from the 64th floor

were they star watchers with the telescopes? how can you spot a person 2am on the 64 floor balcony suddenly jumping down?

How do you know he suddenly jumped down but not after singing a song out loud first?

witnesses did not say anything about him singing or bringing an attention, so we won't speculate

I guess my eyes are too big. Can you help me with the word "suddenly" in the small little box above?

Maybe that's why Finland is holding the first place right now, if I'm not mistaken.

We don't have any tall buildings though.

64th floor....

eeeessshhhh...

Surely the 64th floor gives them too much time to think about changing their minds! Why not make it 10 floors.

Condonlences to loved one that hurt more than the jerk who jumped!

10 floors you might possibly survive and you wouldn't want to after that. I have read that is very common to NOT die instantly from jumps, not a nice way to go.

Probably not seeing the sun a few months make people suicidal?
