Many goods or items may have prices adjusted next year due to rising production costs.

Several items of consumer goods have adjusted their prices, including cooking oil, fresh milk, coffee, tooth paste, powder, and shampoo. Meanwhile the cooking gas and instant noodles’ prices are also prepared to rise this month as manufacturers are unable to burden the higher production costs due to fuel price hikes. The Phuket provincial Chief of Commercial Affairs office Thada Pitchayaporn pointed out that the minimum wages rise which takes effect in January 2008, with Phuket’s highest increase rate of 7 baht, will be another factor for the rise in prices of goods and services. He further stated that the officials are closely monitoring the price of consumer goods to prevent any customer exploitation, especially during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. They would also focus on the price tag display and the expiration date of the products to make them available in the market and department stores.
