Non Immigration O Visa Renewal.

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago I applied for the fourth renewal of my non immigration O visa and at the same time got my 90 day stamp. The 90 day report was due about a week before my imm. visa so I thought that I'd kill two birds with one stone to save a five hour return trip. The officer told me that as the 400,000 baht hadn't been in my Thai bank account for 90 days the application wouldn't be processed until Dec 10. I paid the 1,900 baht fee and I was told to go back to Suan Plu on Jan 5, that's the day that my imm. visa expires. Over the three years that I've had an imm.visa the balance in my Thai bank account has never been below 75,000 baht. I know that the money should've been in for 90 days prior to me submitting my application but I had trouble making several overseas transfers whils't accumulating the 400,000 in my Thai bank account baht then on top of that there was the incident where a worker chopped the optic fibre cable in Bangkok and in doing so brought down half of Thailands internet. Does anyone consider I could have problems obtaining my renewal and secondly the date given to me was Jan 5 which is a Saturday, is Suan Plu opened for business on Saturdays. Thanking you for any assistance.

I am having trouble following your time line but only limited work is done on Saturday mornings in my understanding. Is this the trip to receive your one year extension of stay stamp? If so it might be possible as that desk may be open but I would call hotline 1111 and ask for immigration and then ask them directly.

Thanks lopburi3 for your prompt reply, my 90 day stamp was completed, I've been told to return on Sat Jan 5 for my imm. O visa. Do you think everyting's ok for my renewal as I explained, the officer kept talking to my wife in Thai and my wife isn't the greatest interpreter. The main thing was the application will have to wait till Dec 10 as per the 90 days bank balance. Does this seem normal, I've always had the 400,000 baht in my Thai bank account prior to the 90 days, this time I was caught out due to circumstances beyond my control. Thanks Again.

The money in the bank 3 months is a new rule since last October and has only been strictly enforced in the last month or two (as people were not aware of the rule change earlier). So that seems normal. But I would give them a call (there is supposed to be someone available 24 hours a day) to make sure you can pick up on Saturday. From what I have read they do not accept applications for one year extensions on that day, but perhaps that desk does operate.

Thanks again I will call them now.

In all my years of 'permit to stay' extensions I have always gone to Suan Plu 1-3 days before the appointment date and never had any problems.

Why not go on Fri. 04.Jan? The worst that can happen is that they tell you to come back on Sat., which would mean they will be open for business.

"A five hour return trip" is one reason to be sure. :o

Sorry, didn't see that. But don't they have hotels nearby?

And then they say come back Monday.

And then they say come back Monday.

Well, yes this could happen. After all we are in Thailand where anything is possible.

At least they would have to stamp the OP's PP for another 2-3 days otherwise he could face overstay.

A verbal 'come back on Monday' won't be enough.

My day to pick up my extension fell on a Saturday in October and I picked up my extension without problem on the Monday. I telephoned the 24 hour call centre first the week before and they told me that would be alright. I suggest you do the same.

Yes, it will most certainly work as far as immigration in concerned.

The only problem is that from Sat.-Mon. the OP will be in LOS without a valid visa. If a diligent cop for some reason detects this during this time it could be a big hassle needing time to have it resolved.

I just had a successful visa run to Penang. I'm not married and don't have 800,000 B to qualify for the retirement visa, so I got a non-immigrant O visa, multi-entry 1-year visa.

I'm 64 with a small pension of about $10,000/year, a few thousand US dollars in a US bank and only 50,000 B at Thai Farmers here in Chiangmai. I presented my US consulate sworn proof of income, downloaded savings info on US account and my Thai Bank book. Paid 550 RM with a 50RM commission to the guys at NJ Book Centre on Chulia St.--the main drag in Georgetown. I stay for 18 RM at the nearby Oasis Hotel. It's kind of a dump but adequate for the 3-night stay I needed to get the train back to Thailand from Butterworth.

Oh, no letters from bank managers required, just the book and statements. I suppose you could pump up the balances a little and then withdraw the money for the trip too. But don't say I suggested that!

Mohammed told me "no problem" when I presented my paperwork and I got the fresh visa 2 days later good until Nov. 27, 2008. With a visa run at the end I'm good till '09.

Tell me about happiness!

Also recommend the Ship restaurant for great steak/seafood dinners and not all that expensive by US standards. About $20 for prawns, steak, salad, corn on the cob, potatoes and a delicious 3 scoop chocolate sundae. Drank ice tea. Liquor, wine and beer are high there.

You make a 5hr trip every 90 days for the 90day reporting slip ?? why don't you use EMS Post, in 5 years I have never been in person, the 90day never falls on the same time as the Yearly Visa
