Where can I find a list of the countries that can drive with local driving license in Thailand and do not need to have "international driving license" ??

?? :o

There is a list, but of course I can't find it right now :o

IIRC it's all the countries adjacent to Thailand plus ASEAN members and that's it, all others require an International Driving Permit (IDP) obtainable from the motoring organisations in your home country.

What is that means ?

I heard from somebody that the All Europe don't need "international" and use only their home countries driving license.. ??????

The reason I'm asking is for insurance thing ,in case of claims will the insurance accept a european local driving license?

This is the question actually..

All European countries DEFINITELY require an IDP to drive in Thailand.

Whilst rarely enforced by the police, an insurance company will find any way to wriggle out of paying a claim. There have also been reports (unsubstantiated) of insurers of private vehicles (not hire cars) baulking at paying when the driver held an IDP, insisting that a local Thai licence was the only valid driving document.

EDIT for our original poster "IIRC" means "If I Recall Correctly", "ASEAN" is "The Association of Southeast Asian Nations" a far eastern version of the EU.

Ok I have to check it with my insurance..

What you're saying is that some insurance companies cover only Thai driving license BUT NOT international..

is that right?

I'll check and update you here.

Correct.

Make sure you get any confirmation of what licence they want you to have in writing. My insurance policy states that I need a 'proper' licence whatever that means, I've never questioned the company as to the precise meaning of 'proper' because I have a Thai licence.
