I just decided to leave a relatively new job (only about 6 weeks in), during which time the Company had applied for a WP for me. Now that I have resigned, they want to cancel the WP, but I have to go pick it up first. I have no problem with assisting in this, BUT when I pick up the WP will they put a stamp in my Passport or what? And if so, when the Company cancels the WP, what will be my status? I am presently on a non-immigrant O, which is valid until Jan 2 2008. However I may just leave LOS during the last week of this month to extend (KL or Penang) with another tourist-type visa anyway. I do not intend to work here (again), and if I DO I understand that my "new" Company will have to go through the WP process all over again.

I have no problem helping my former Employer with canceling my WP, but NOT at a "cost" of screwing myself as far as Thai Immigration is concerned.... as I have heard that once a WP in canceled, you only have 10 days to get out??

Can somebody please advise?

TIA,

HB

If you have only worked six weeks you are on a visa entry rather than a one year extension of stay from Immigration it seems so work permit will not effect that 90 day stay. Those on extensions of stay from Immigration for work reasons are the ones effected and they have 7 days to leave.

AH HA! So that rule applies ONLY for those that are on their "second" or other multiple Visa / WP renewal...so since I entered approx. 75 days ago on a 90 day non-immigrant O Visa, it will still be valid for it's FULL term--even though I (technically) had a WP for a few weeks only....does NOT affect it.

Great news! Cheers!

It only applies to those on extensions of stay from immigration. It does not apply on any 90 day visa entry - be it the first or not. You are safe.
