Why the heck do they abandon cats in the middle of nowhere? A couple of month back we saw a cat we could not befriend about 5K from the nearest house. We used to buy food if we were passing. Last week we found 2 near our house about 4 weeks old. We fetched them home and gave them to our oldes female. She really is anatural mother and has a history of adopting/kidnapping :o . We had to to go Phuket, and left someone food to feed our pack. However one of the 2 abandoned kittens died whlst we were away. I know it's not ideal but why not the bloody Wat?

I don't know, I find that odd. Where I live, people abandon animals at the wat or near sympathetic homes. That said, you are talking about cats. It is possible the momma cat was moving her babies when you found them. Or had been killed by a dog or car...

actually, dumping dogs and cats at the wat does not mean they are safe and can continue their lives there. usually, there are dogs and cats there already which might not accept new additions and also the wats don't have endless sources of food for endless animals. i tried once to bring some puppies to our wats on samui, everywhere the monks there refused to take them, also they told me that the pups won't make it there as they would be bitten or killed by the other dogs, latest at feeding time! and - most monks don't have the time to only care about the dumped animals.

so people know that and don't bring them there.

The cat I mentioned 1st was an adult female, 2 or 3 years old. We saw her several times, never more tha 1/2 km from where we 1st saw her. In that location she can only have been abandoned.
