Can somebody let me know if what I'm hearing is correct - I've heard so many conflicting stories so maybe here on ThaiVisa I can find out what is and is not allowed.

Q: can a Bar that has a Restaurant license serve Wine and beer over the election period.

What I was told was that once you had the restaurant license then there would be no restriction - can someone tell me if this is true.

Thanks in advance.

There is the law and there is what is enforced.

I have a restaurant license but have received notice that I cannot serve alcohol . It is the first time in 5 and a half years we have received such notice and I believe it will be striclty enforced (or heavily fined) ... and I am sure there might even be the chance they will look for an example somewhere.

The only exceptions that I have noticed are places owned by connected people or large hotels, or people chancing their luck by selling it in coffee cups (I am not even attempting that as I need to be on the right side of officials at the moment).

You can chance your arm, but if they come and tell you to stop, make appropriate apologies about misunderstanding the rules etc etc etc and immediately stop selling alcohol.

Its unfortunate that it is such a grey area, but personally I am just going to accept the fact we are not going to have such a good trade this month and treating it as an investment - i.e. if the election goes well, then maybe we will see some positive actions like changing the FBA and visa rules and getting some good administraion of Koh Samui etc etc. Wishful thinking I know, but no use getting down in the dumps about it, for the sake of a few less chances to sell some beer.

... I fully realise there will be other opinions out there... and please treat my comments as you like remembering I do not drink any alcohol anymore because I tended to abuse it a bit in the past, so I am well past the stage of having withdrawal symptoms over a couple of days without beer.
