I love mountain biking but just don’t fancy tussles with King Cobras.

Whenever I stray from the main roads on my scooter I always see snakes scurrying across the road in front of me. Presumably they are scared of the noise from the scooter. However if I were to by cycling, they might not be so timid.

Anyone any experience of cycling round the island and how to deal with snake or other hazards?

I don't cycle in Phuket but have cycled all over the North east and central parts of thailand. I have never been bothered by snakes or monitor lizards, they always disappear asap. The only problem i have with biting creatures are the ants. Go under a low tree and you will be covered with them.

Been here a long time seen one large snake while I was walking along an unnmade road. it took the shortest escape route away
