My friend has just asked me to bring £200 worth of viagra to the uk as its half the price in Thailand. he bought it himself last year and was pleased with it.

I have read stuff on the forum about viagra before saying its not the same etc but he seems eager for me to buy it again so must work :o

All I want to know if itis legal to take it through customs. Last thing i want is to get stopped with it! I have read all the books about the thai jails and thats maybe why i'm rather apprehensive. So your views on it please!

Wouldn't want to do ANYTHING thats illegal!

As Viagra is a prescription drug not only is it illegal to take it through customs but it's illegal to buy it over the counter. Add to that the fact that it's almost certainly counterfeit and your problems are compounded.

Your friend is asking you to engage in an illegal act. Would you do that to a friend?

No, our friend is in the same position as us, didn't know if it was legal or not. So anyway, matters are cleared now...won't be carryig it over for him.

Thanks for your reply though!

Suppose could always risk posting it for him????

It's certainly original if you buy it from a pharmacy.

A drunk, scruffy Thai roaming around Pattaya Mini Siam was whispering to foreigners "viagra, viagra"...there I doubt he was selling the real thing.

I bought it a few times for a friend in Japan and did not worry if I got stopped. He would have lost his money if the customs confiscated it.

And why would it's prescription make it illegal if bought over the counter? How would a lot bought on a prescription in Australia differ from the over the counter pack from Bangkok at Heathrow? The prescription stays with the pharmacists. How about more dangerous (if abused) prescription medicines that go through each airport in the world all day every day?

12,000B buys a lot of it and that may be suspicios (commercial gain) if customs stopped you.

Edit is gone....

forgot to say : another prescription and "elective" drug - Propecia, has been with me on all (probably 80) Thai trips.

Either in smaller quantities (for 2 weeks) or whole lot for 6 months (that's 12,000B). It's now 5th year that every 6 months I get a shoebox size bag at Bumrungrad to carry back with me.

It's probably easier to explain that I take 1 of it every day than explaining the same quantity of Viagra...

Well, it can be if you want it to be. But pharmacies sell generic drugs just the same as brand name ones.

Personally I would not do this, especially because of potential trouble with UK customs. Sending it by mail it's likely to get caught, also.

You should be OK with amounts deemed reasonable for personal use.

May I suggest that you post it for him; split them up into separate packages just in case some of them are seized.

I would buy and carry it again, if asked, but still a pack or two. Not more than that.

The drug is the original one.

we were returning from a visa trip to cambodia and for the first time ever, the

bus pulled to the side at the military checkpoint. i thought, what a waste of time

and the soldiers began poking through the bags of some to the travellers. well,

this one guy, i mean he was at least 70 years old, had boxes and boxes of this

stuff he had bought in cambodia. counterfeit most likely. there were a lot of

oohhs and aaahhs and "police lock" jokes but in the end they told him he was

allowed one packet and confiscated the rest. probably not an advisable activity.
