Could you please make more clear and in details about the grandfathered clause. How can I know I am grandfathered and what are the signs and symptoms of it? Just got extended marriage visa for my 10th year and planning to apply PR next year, holding an Indian passport and working with the Thai company as health proffessional.

Currently the only method to extend for family is 40k family income per month. So if you are using bank deposit of 400k for one year extensions of stay from Immigration you are doing so under the grandfather rule.

Thanks lob, I came in Nov 98 and had extensions for 7 years on the basis of bank account deposit, it is only the last 3 extensions on the basis of 40K. My question is if it will be possible to extend on the basis of bank account deposit again next year in case I don't work and don't have 40K to show.

Don't believe we have any definitive examples but it would appear to be possible. When the income is available the rule seems to indicate that it must be used so if it is not available and you have the history one would expect the bank account would be accepted.
