I just bought a house in Chiang Mai.  At the Bank I asked what the insurance covered.  The bank said it covered fire.  I asked if it covered anything else like an Airplane flying into the house or any other diaster and the bank representative told me not to ask foolish questions.  So at this point I'm not sure what "standard" house insurance coveres.   Since I can't read Thai I'm not sure what the contract says.   Any clues?  Is Theft covered?  Contents?

Ask if they have a copy of the policy in English, if not...

Ask for a copy of the policy and get it translated - its too important to p*ss around with.

You could also get it checked out with a lawyer.
