I am German on retirement visa here. Expiry date 05.02.08. I will be on a motorbike trip through Thailand, probably in the Chaing Mai area around Jam 30.

1. can I renew my 1 year visa at Immigration CM ?

2. will Immigration CM accept confirmation of my monthly income issued by the German consulate in Phuket?

For your info

Last year had problems.

Was on the road. Saw CM Immigration, they said Phuket-visa extension = No problem.

Was in a hurry, didnt do anything but drove off to Hua Hin.

Hua Hin Immigration refused to accept fax confirmation by my Phukert bank SCB that I have 800.000 on deposit. Immigr. demanded Hua Hin bank statement.

I opened acc with SCB Hua Hin, transfered money, got confirmation of deposit.

Rejected by the head of Immigration Hua Hin on the ground that the money was NOT SINCE 3 MOnth in a HUA HIN bank

One would think that a bank is one legal entity , even in Thailand

1. Not likely without a Chiang Mai residence - assume your current extension of stay is from Phuket?

2. NA if they will not accept your application. I expect they would be looking for a confirmation from your Embassy in Bangkok and only accept if current.

If you are currently in Phuket why not try to extend now? They will often allow a little early if you have valid reasons for asking.

AND IT WORKED INDEED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, YOU SAVED ME QUITE SOME MONEY, I GUESS.

SHOWS IN THAILAND ONE SHOULD NEVER DEDUCT FROM ONE RULE APPLICABILITY TO ANOTHER.

In this case I assumed because renewal of a drivers licence must be done on the exacte date of it first anniversary same same applies to Visa too.

Not even a question was asked.

Up to 30 days before expiry, I believe ?

I once had to renew early, when I was going to be travelling overseas, on the date that my previous extension expired.

Up to 30 days early is normal. If you have a valid reason, such as travel, they will often allow earlier. It will be up to the office/officer involved.
