sunstate Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I could be wrong, (I often am), but I think Jason Bourne is a spy character out of one of Robert Ludlum's books. I guess he had a reputation for making lethal weapons from innocuous household items. Perhaps it's not the diver's real name. Keep going Chill your almost there! Glad you could join us.
engineer Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Couple of questions come to mind : What happened to the parrot , no mention of that and is it possible to swim with a wooden leg and a hook ?
Patriot Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Sounds like Mr Oberson was not enjoying the company of his wife on the boat. Apprently she was the yacht's cook who was working late peeling an onion
mikethevigoman Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 That shot gun must have been built by a real terrorist, one piece of fine workmanship.I do not know what preferenses the Thai police have as to proffesional build weapons of terror, but to me that looks like something really unproffesionally built. But then again it seems to have work as it fired and wounded the skipper! Lets see if I can build one of those too, black PVC tape, PVC pipe, black widow slingshot, 8mm nut. hmmm that should do it. looks like it was made by blue peter !

mrdome Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 A.) You have to admit that the 'bizare and 'ooh la la'' factor is very high here while there was none in the recent shooting of the Canadian male. B.) Give it some time until we know the nationality of the attacker (if he was the attacker), you might get some critical comments then. It's interesting when a farang is knifed to death and dumped in the ocean by another farang under mysterious circumstances it's a funny story, but when a farang tourist is killed by a Thai its an international incident that warrants tremendous criticism of Thailand.
cougar52 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Phuket Gazette's version: KARON: Chalong Police are investigating the bizarre killing, apparently in self-defense, of an unknown frogman who attacked a Swiss yacht owner and a Thai woman late Wednesday night. The details of the case, as provided to the media at a press conference yesterday afternoon by Chalong Police Superintendent Col Saman Chainarong, are based on the eye-witness account of 25-year-old Trat native Porntip Pradit According to the Phuket Gazette she is 25!
bkkbill Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 The dead diver found in the sea. His name is Jason Bourne. well done Sir Burr I quite liked that, actually laughed out loud! And this is the reason I very seldom follow any thread on Thai Visa. Someone died and as the true store isn't out but we get this trivial

Felt 35 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 A girlfriend of the victim who declined to give out her full name told police that while she was on board with Mr. Alain, that Mr Oberson had come to Thailand with his wife ..and the diver..
carrera1jasper Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Brilliant Sir Burr made me laugh and I'm in the middle of the Egyptian Desert.

If the truth really is an attempted robbery, I don't see anything trajic about it. Justified self defense isn't trajic. The boats operator being hurt isn't if he survives from injuries. Not so sure he'll survive his wife. I believe I do have a solution as to why the Thai lady was aboard the ship. He obviously was searching for poontang, (a large gamefish known to inhabit these waters) hence the presence of the the professional guide, maybe a professional in finding poontang for visitors.
pumpuiman Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 (edited) About 70 meters from the vessel, police recovered the body of a lightly bearded, middle-aged Caucasian male wearing a black diving suit, complete with swim goggles and fins. Does anyone else find it odd that this guy was hanging around, inspecting the boat.....etc....with fins on his feet? If this quote is true....there is a major flaw in this story, somebody is lying. Indeed, but they did say he prepared to leave and then got the gun /knife out ,.
jumnien Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 One could assume the owner of the boat murdered a man with a knife, then had the girlfriend shoot him in the shoulder with a gun he kept aboard the boat to make it look justified. Just a thought.
innovator Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 "complete with swim goggles and fins" I thought it was Thai custom to remove your fins/shoes or whatever before entering a ship???
IAMSOBAD Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 she is lying through her sweet young lips. this was a set up to rob the rich guy between her and the dead frogman. who in the heil swims up to a yacht and is invited on to have a tour and drinks while the skipper is doodling his young innocent beauty. while the wifes away...skipper played. he got set up by two morons who couldnt pull it off. when her partner was hurt and jumped overboard she changed teams in mid stream so to speak. this was probably a boat jacking to sail off into the sunset....but the skipper was too fast and too strong. also this b.s. about this man found dead maybe being the skinny little SCB bank robber is another joke. he was the bank mangers thai cousin. totally an inside job. can anyone here solve a crime?

Momo8 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 It reminds me of the movie 'Dead Calm' A thriller involving a couple who have gone on vacation to overcome a personal tragedy and become involved with a dangerous and mysterious stranger.

mitrapaap Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Thai friend Ponthip Jansom. Against 22 both someone "Hello" hear o'clock call. Cut and pasted direct from the newspaper. Cut and paste? plus translate and mix up!
Brewsta Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 maybe the yacht skippers name will soon be changed to "OverSoon" - as in marriage. I am sure that more will emerge on the complicity 'of purpose' between the 2 men - an assassin just happening to be paddling by ones boat seems a tad far-fetched, even in the FairyLand of LOS, yes?
Patriot Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Phenominal viewing figures on this thread lads, I hope your advertisers are happy !!!

As long as Mr. Oberson and the lady keep telling the same story it looks like a quick case. The only one who could tell a different story is dead. And there is nothing strange on being on a yacht at 10pm while swimming around in the water at this time is certainly more suspicious.
Momo8 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 NOthing in the New Zealand papers but Googled some info from Swiss papers,Mr Oberson was the founding member of a Swiss law firm.Strange story but you would think if someone was out to murder the guy it would have been planned better. Why was he on the yacht without his family?

themuse1969 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 In the early 1970's I circumnavigated. In NZ I was warned not to sail into Indonesian waters nor the Andaman Sea, because of pirating. Of course, in this case it was one farang against another in a rich man's harbour. So, I headed into the Indian Ocean and bypassed a watery region I had been interested to sail in.
