Hi all :D

I'm going to apply for a student visa, in Phnom Penh

From what i found, i need :

---> An official letter from the head of the department concerned requesting for a visa for the applicant. The University's registration papers and the rector's letter of appointment. Passport photocopy.

probably 2 photos... a bank account status paper may be useful too ?

I wonder one little thing... how many days does it take to get the non immigrant "ED" Visa there ?

by any chance do u know the fee ?

Oh yeah and where is the thai embassy in Phnom Penh haha... can be useful to know that one bit :o

Edit : ok i got that...

From what I've heard is the consulate in Cambodia not really interested in providing visas to foreigners ...., but rather providing consular services to Cambodians and Thais.

Ok so i shall get a hotel for 2 nights, thanks for sharing :D

What you mean by not interesting in giving visa to foreigners... as long as you give them all the paperwork there shouldn't be any problem ^^ They just have to service for what people ask them for, they can't tell you "we dont like to give visa we'd prefer to give you that..." :o

They most assuredly can and have told people that. They can also add whatever local requirements they desire (although this seems to happen at Manila more than other places). In general places seem to go through cycles, depending on personal, so perhaps this is a better period; but until we have more reports I would not go there myself.

You can change any kind of stamp/Visa to a Non Immigrant Visa in BKK or nearest Immigration office provided your paperwork is in order and you have 21days left on your current stay.

PP would be last place to apply.

Malaysia would be a good choice.

But the paper work would have to be for a degree course at a Thai university. These days, extensions for language schools will not cut it.

Cambodia has long ranked quite high on the list as having an "un-user friendly" thai consulate/embassy. However several well known visa run companies routinely use them, as have people applying for the 'free' tourist visa promotion currently running.

Either contact your school for the required paperwork or find the poster on T/V known as "macwalen" (a forum sponsor, so clicking his ad will work too) as he has a thai language school. He’s also probably gotten more ED visas issued for students than all the other private thai language schools combined. He'll know the answer about using that consulate to get ED visas for attending a private thai language school.

I concur with dr_Pat-Pong, that the above quoted information is erroneous or at least should carry a caveat. :)

Currently there is NO place inside thailand to "change any kind of stamp/Visa to a Non-Immigrant Visa” for attending a private thai language school. This is due to the paperwork the school receives from the MOE which basically states "take this to a thai embassy or consulate to apply for your ED visa". Last time I checked there are no thai embassies or consulates in thailand. :D More people than I care to count showed up at Immigrations with that paperwork only to be told it says in thai to go to an EMBASSY or CONSULATE..

Getting an ED visa for being enrolled in a uni or college is a different kettle of fish entirely than a private thai language school, and it would be better to contact them directly than show up in Phnom Penh without a needed document.
