Driving Behavior In Thailand

Featured Replies

I think this might be a fun discussion. Everyone knows about it. Everyone has experienced it. Lets talk about it for laughs shall we? :o

A few top-list most annoying general Thai motorist behavior in my view:

1. Immediately reving to close the gap when someone turns on their signal to get into your lane eventhough they have suffiencient time and space to do so.

2. No concept of taking turns one by one when merging at a bottle neck.

3. Randomly creating a new lane and and wedging back into the "real lanes" further up the road causing more traffic.

4. Overtaking someone in their own lane (if not rudely cutting them off) when the red light is just up ahead.

5. Not letting someone finish their u-turn even when more than half their car is already sticking out.

Check out my "Update On Traffic Laws" thread from earlier.

The way many guys ride motorcycles over here reminds me of that bumper sticker in the USA: "If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk!!"

The real scary ones are the "sip lor" (ten wheel trucks) drivers...these guys fly down the roads and zig-zag as if they're driving Porsches.

Buses are another hazard; the drivers often adopt the kamikaze style and will jam on the brakes/gas with people hanging out the doors.

Yep, sorry Gearhead13 but this one has been done-to-death several times already. Like Thaiboxer says, have a look on page 2 under "Update on Traffic Laws". If you want to go back a bit further, there will be more.

Like here, for example

Keep 'em coming! :o
