Hi all,

My girlfriend and I have booked a flight to Thailand from the UK leaving on the 1st March 2008 and returning on the 12th May 2008, a total of 72 Days,

Could someone please tell me which visa we would require?

we would also be interested in going to Burma or cambodia too if this helps?

Any help would be grateful

Thank you.

Simon.

You should have tourist visas. If your return from outside trip with less than 30 days remaining you can use visa exempt 30 day stamp for that.

Is'nt there only one sort of tourist visa? Just Tourist Visa:)

If you're planning on staying for 72 days, you should plan to stay in Thailand for up to and including 60 days (because Tourist Visa is valid for 60 days from arrival), and then leave Thailand on this day. You say you intend to go to either Burma or Cambodia (you may need a visa for either of these countries), and come back into Thailand with the visa exemption for the remaining 12 days (or whatever the amount of days you have left, after you've travelled Burma or Cambodia).

The visa exemption would allow you 30 days extra in Thailand.

It will help if you tell us when exactly you intend on leaving Thailand for Burma/Cambodia, and for how long.

We'll then be able to figure out the dates you'll need to come back to TH and which visa is necessary for you, if you need one at all.

For example, if you stay 30 days in Thailand then go to Burma for 30 days (or whatever many days you want), that means when you come back to TH you won't need a visa at all as you can use your Visa Exempt status (For up to 30 days again). Just use your Visa Exemption (you have up to 3 entries on Visa Exempt). However, you'll need to apply for visas to burma/cambodia probably.

This should satisfy your 72 days of travel in Thailand, Burma/Cambodia.

A single entry tourist visa should be all you need. The only other kind would be a two or three entry at two or three times the cost.

Thank you for your replies,

we aim to head up to Mai Hong son and maybe cross into burma for a couple of days after 25 days,

can we go for the visa exemption if we dont have a flight leaving thailand within 30 days?

will our airline - Royal Jordanian allow us to board wthout a visa?

thank you

If you never stay more than 30 days in Thailand at a time then you don't need any form of visa.

If you will be visiting Thailand for over 30 days again within 12 months or you want to hop in and out but stay more than 30 days at a time then you may want to consider a multiple entry non immigrant visa which would cover you for 90 days on each entry.

If you have a tourist visa then you do not have to use that as soon as you arrive in Thailand. You can request only the 30 day entry stamp and use the visa later (within its validity).

I am not sure about the position of your airline because any visa, unless a non immigrant visa will expire before your intended return in 72 days. I suspect that you do not have onward travel booked prior to leaving (say a plane ticket exiting Thailand after 28 days for instance) and thus you may need a visa.

I once booked air tickets taking me out of Thailand before the 30 day limit and had no problems. This was even though my eventual ticket was from Thailand to the UK some months hence.

Times have changed. You now need either a visa or a confirmed flight out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival.
