In Thai With Tourist Visa Going To Cambodia Then Back?

Featured Replies

Can an American with a tourist visa in Thailand go to Cambodia and then return to Thailand? I would like to go by bus/train. My guess is I might have trouble getting back into Thailand as re-entry permits are sometimes required. If in fact a re-entry pemit is required, can they be attained by people on a tourist visa?

If you have a tourist visa that has been activated and immigration has given you a period of 60 days to stay in Thailand then you can apply for a re-entry permit at any immigration office within Thailand. You then leave for Cambodia and when you return it reactivates the current permission to stay so you can stay in Thailand until the date given as your current permission to stay.

You will need B1000 and some passport photos to get the re-entry permit.

If you do not get the re-entry permit before you go you can be admitted back to Thailand with a visa free entry which will give you 30 days to stay in Thailand, however you may be required to show an onward or return ticket to get such an entry.

Moved to the Thai visas and residency sub-forum.

Scouse.

For reference.

You can get a re-entry permit on ANY kind of visa.

Thanks guys. As a followup, if I decide not to re-enter Thailand and proceed to another country from Cambodia (most likely back to the US) I should have no problems buying a flight ticket from within Cambodia right? If so, anyone know if there would be a significant difference in price vs the same ticket bought in Thailand?

After taking my Thai SO (Significant Other) to Singapore and Kong Kong recently, I had a couple of days left before I flew back to Australia last night - so we visited Phnom Penh (Cambodia). I was organised (so I thought) and got myself a Cambodian eVisa.

The SO told me that as he is Thai, he wouldn't require a Visa to enter Cambodia. Wrong! Just as well he had a spare passport photo handy - plus $US25.

Phnom Penh is am amazing place - it looks like Bangkok 50 years ago, I have been told.

Returning to Bangkok wasn't cheap either - both of us had to pay the $US25 Departure Tax - which is not part of your airfare.

I would imagine that there are not the number of flights going out of Cambodia to the US. So in that case they would probably cost more.
