"do Not Apply For Another Visa In Penang" Stamp

Featured Replies

Here is my situation.

I have been in Thailand for one year. I am Canadian, and I am 27 years old. I have been staying here by doing visa runs to Penang. Tourist visa with one month extension. Last time I went to Penang I received a stamp in my passport saying " Do not apply for another visa in Penang".

Suppossedly, they made a new law there stating that after 3 tourist visas from Penang, I have to go back to my own country to apply for a new visa.

Is this true? Can I instead go to KL or to Vientiennne? Which one is better?

Please help!!!!

Which tourist area are you in?

Vientiane is currently reported to be the best location to obtain a tourist visa.

Even a double entry seems possible from there.

Am I reading this correctly?? You have stayed in Thai on a tourist visa for the last year? Do you go for extention visa's every month or every 3 months? How long can one use this method to stay in the country?

A proper Tourist Visa from an embassy/consulate gives you 60 days on entry which can then be extended at immigration for a further 30 days. Once the extension expires you can go and get another visa from an embassy.

There is officially no limit to how long you can keep doing this, but some embassies/consulates, notably Penang, are limiting the number that they will issue to a person.

NOTE It seems that only the countries on the 30 day exemption list now get 60 days on a tourist visa, the others get only 30 :o
