Songkran In Ayuthaya

Featured Replies

I am thinking of heading to Ayuthaya for Songkran this year as my sister is visiting and it wouls kill 2 birds with one stone.

Anyone know when the festival begins there? And which day would be best to go? Not so interested in the rituals but the water fight and processions sound like fun!

OR, anyone suggest another location? Nearish to Bangkok where we can stay here or go for a night or two?

Thanks,

Emily

April 13-15. The first day is usually the most fun (end of the Thai year) as the kids have been looking forward to it all year and this is when most come out to play. Also, many places don't do the water throwing over the full three days. Never been to Ayuthaya over Songkran but I guess it'd be a lot of fun, is a nice settin and is well within reach of Bangkok - trains and buses. If you do do it there Tony's Place is a good bet for digs.

Whatever you do don't be tempted to come to Chiang Mai as it's manic up here with the water throwing going on for two weeks :o
