mallmagician
I will be going back to the UK for a few months next month, and am wanting to take some amusing products home with me. At my grocery shop they sell some seaweed type stuff called Big Shiit, or some such spelling. Anyone else seen any amusingly named products? realthaideal
Good One Magiciano. I have always had a chuckle over the sanitary napkin or kleenex brand (forget which as I buy neither!) named pigeon. It's like, "Hey, when I think hygiene, I think pigeon!" Also used to be a canned peanut snack around called 'Nut Walker.' Haven't seen it in a couple years. Nut walker was tasty. And nothing like grabbing for some nut walker when you're hungry! Easy and less creative, there're two packaged products called Fish-o and another called Squiddy that will please people. You can buy both of these in small cheap bags (snack pack style) and pass them out to friends back home for a taste of Thailand and a good little laugh too. Ulysses G.
"Darky" toothpaste with the picture of Al Joleson on it was GREAT, but the forces of poitical correctness vanished it years ago. Bananaman
There's that sweet boxed khanom called "Collon" and the candy called "Fanny". Some of the veggie restaurants sell a brand of bread that's got "Whale-wheat" instead of "Whole-wheat" on the label. There's also a brand of toilet roll that I've only ever seen in BKK that's called "Sit and Smile"

JoshMyPickle
7-11 sells these imported pseudo-goldfish snacks called Cracko! 2 flavours--spicy red chili and regular (salted/buttered) They are /really/ good too but can be a bit difficult to find in the store... look around the imported products section--probably on a lower shelf. If you are into fashion accessories, ie bags/stationeries and the like, there are /lots/ of kitschy products around; the best I've seen thus far is the nursing student carrying a "Capsule Children" japanimation handbag. The Korean schoolboy notebook of a panda bear dry-humping a pillow with the caption "try it, you'll like it" comes a close second, though. Ricardo
I'm told that our peculiar Britsh green-soap with an emblem of a little boy, brand-name 'Fairy', was also quite popular in the US gay-community ? ollylama
i believe there's a kind of wafer biscuit available at 7-11 called "tourist". one thing i noticed the other day is that a very popular type of yogurt is called "0% fat free" which of course means it's 100% fat. and let's not forget the popular line of janitorial supplies available here in thailand called "Blackman"

Phil There used to be a Chinese made skin conditioner cream for women. It showed a picture of a gold colored rooster on the jar. It was called Golden Cock. It's advertising slogan was..........Every woman wants a Golden Cock. Obviously something was missed in the translation from Chinese to English. jeepholt
"Darky" toothpaste with the picture of Al Joleson on it was GREAT, but the forces of poitical correctness vanished it years ago. I always wonder how far their sales went down when they changed the name to "Darlie"? I've had small and large boxes of "Darkie" lying around for many years now. Had forgotten about it until last week I noticed an opened tube in the hong nam already half emptied. Immediately questioned my old Esarn wife about it. Got the normal dumbfounded look Did manage to save one of the large tubes for a keepsake though.
MKAsok
"Darky" toothpaste with the picture of Al Joleson on it was GREAT, but the forces of poitical correctness vanished it years ago. I always wonder how far their sales went down when they changed the name to "Darlie"? Not so. Political incorrectness is alive and well in Foodland Suk 5 where the other night I saw (can't for the life of me remember what it was now - some kind of cleaning product maybe) something called 'Black Man,' complete with cartoonish, yet somehow still sinister and almost ghoulish accompanying illustration. Like the bloke in the top-hat who emerges laughing like a dentist from the grave during the crazy voodoo ceremony in Live and Let Die. I was tempted to take a picture, but felt like any intense scrutiny of said product was somehow akin to viewing hardcore pornography in public. I've also seen 'Porn Shampoo' at various locations in LOS. From the US, I attach a picture of the amusingly labeled 'Laura Lynn Homo Plastic.' EDIT: Ollylama - just noticed the end of your post. Didn't mean to steal your thunder... Edited January 25, 2008 by MKAsok
jaiyenyen
Walking around Chaing Mai a couple of years ago, I saw tattoo shop called BASTARD TATTOO'S Ok, it's not a product, but it did make me laugh.
ollylama
there's also a drinking water called "yellow surprise." here's the ice cube version. "exploited at chiengrai" - a "special brand of siamese ice cube." how special, exactly? hopefully not that special.
andy1308
The often advertised 'hygienic pork' products make me smile. Are they saying the rest aren't hygienic? And how about the 'Wiley Toilet Partitions' company in Bangkok. Finally, I cannot remember the name of the publication but it brands itself as 'The magazine for Thailand's fisherman'. It's awfully good of them to produce their magazine for just one person.
lioness
The local garage was handing out packets of crisps ( chip's if your an Aussie ) when you purchased Fuel. It was a Thai brand with an English Translation which had the flavour down as CABAGGE'S & CONDOMS. Can't say if they were any good or not, just couldn't talk myself into trying them. jaidam
There is a brand of heavy oil lube for diggers and heavy machinery. Black plastic 20liter container, and its called "Backhole lube" an obvious misspelling of backhoe which the Thais call a JCB type machine!
