900,000 Bahts worth of Thai and Foreign Currency Stolen in Armed Robbery.

Police were called to an apartment block in Soi Gopai, South Pattaya on Friday Morning by Khun Poonsub aged 36 who claimed she had just become the victim of an armed robbery. At the scene, she explained to Police that she had come back to her 2nd Floor room and was confronted by two masked assailants who were carrying guns. They ordered her to hand over a shoulder bag which contained a mixture of Thai and Foreign Currency totaling 900,000 Baht. This is not the first time she has been robbed and Police suspect the assailants had previous knowledge of the victim and that she may be carrying a large amount of money. Police are now hunting for the two men, however with no witnesses and a vague description of the two men due to them concealing their faces, the chances of recovering the stolen bag and its contents are slim.

Update from Pattaya City News

Two arrested following recent 900,000 Baht robbery in South Pattaya.

On yesterdays show we reported on the robbery of Thai and Foreign Currency totaling 900,000 Baht from Khun Poonsub aged 36 who is married to an American. Further details of the reasons why she was carrying the money have now been revealed by the victim. She had withdrawn 800,000 Baht from the bank on Friday Morning which she intended to use to purchase land in her home village. She was also carrying winnings from a gambling event which occurred the night before. Police did not hold out much hope of catching the two people involved in the theft, however, some investigations into the gambling event suggested one of the men who attended had previous convictions. He was located at his Mother’s Mini-mart store located on the Sukumvit Road in Jomtien with his female accomplice. Khun Boonrod aged 29 and his girlfriend, Khun Prisana aged 19. Inside his room, Police found the bag containing most of the cash and a loaded handgun thought to have been used in the robbery. The male suspect is currently involved in a court case relating to a shooting which occurred some years ago and he is facing at least 10 years in prison if convicted. He intended to use the money to clear the case out of court. He is now back behind bars and has been charged with armed robbery along with the female suspect. They must also find 57,000 Baht which represents the money missing from the bag since the robbery took place.

More "Robin Hood" logic at work. It's okay to steal from foreigners or someone

closely linked to them because of course, there is an inexhaustible supply where

that came from. Absolutely amazing the police are able to catch any of these

people, they are so overwhelmed with the crime. It wasn't long ago the military

was riding around on patrols with the local gendarmes. They need to resume

that policy or increase the ranks of regular officers to try and control this.

I was this story on the telli yesterday and was dumbfounded...really feel for the bloke who is married to such a dumb bird who thinks it's ok to (1) withdraw TB 800,000 from the bank and carry it around town on her person; (2) be involved in illegal gambling activities (with hubbies money of course); (3) apparently allow the other gamblers to become aware of the large amounts of money on her person (probably by bragging about her "rich" farang and all the money she withdrew from the bank that day.

Maybe her farang partner should explain what a bank cashiers check is all about...amazing the plod were able to find this money...i would suppose the large amount of reward money likely offered had everything to do with it.
