Found this article and read it according to calculations Bangkok should be 8 to 25 feet lower than it is now. Dated 1983 so is it ? If so it should now be approximately 3 to 20 foot submerged by now!!

Simply put - they were WRONG. :D

I wonder how much funding they got for further investigations? :o You can make a good living out of scaring people. :D

The Global warming brigade most certainly are. And don't get me started on the mileage they clock up going round the planet "scaring" all and sundry about the carbon footprint we all use.

I must say I found this all very interesting as alledgedly from a report 25 years old it should be well and truly underwater and then I found this:

Predictions of rising tidal levels is very complex.

The reason for this is the Earth is a rotating sphere not a flat stationary surface plus water is a fluid. Put this two simple facts together and you have a problem. Hold a half full bowl of water in your hands and then start rotating, you will soon see that the water is no longer evenly distributed. Place a few baffles in the bowl to represent continents and it gets even more complex.

So actually, scientists cannot agree on Thailand, here is a contrary viewpoint extracted from a hydrological journal:-)

Rate of sea-level changes due to climate changes vary according to latitudes: namely (i) in high andmiddle latitudes, successive glacial, interglacial and interstadial conditions occur with significant sea-levelrises, and (ii) in low latitudes, successive humid and arid conditions occur with small sea-level rises or falls. The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) projection of future sea-level rise in the high andmiddle latitudes of 31, 66 and 110 centimeters in 100 years for low, middle and high scenarios respectively is wrongly accepted to be applicable to the Gulf of Thailand, which is in the low latitudes, where air and seawater temperatures are already high, and therefore, a relatively insignificant increase of temperatures is found in several large cities. Analyses of 56 years data of tides recorded at Ko Lak, Prachuap Khirikhan province and Sattahip, Chonburi province revealed that sea levels are falling slowly, which is consistent with the results of Gregory (1993) who reported sea-level falls in the low latitudes and the Gulf of Thailand of 0-50 milimeters, using the U.K. Meteorological Offices Coupled Ocean-atmosphere General Circulation Model. In conclusion, the sea-level in the Gulf of Thailand is found preliminarily to be falling slightly or not changing, contradicting the belief that sea-level is rising in the Gulf of Thailand at the same rate as that in the high and middle latitudes.

And stuff like this makes me think global warming is not all it appears and NOT mans fault. Time will tell.............and will we get a refund from what we are about to start paying out for big time!

There is much evidence of rising sea levels at many of the temples of Samut Prakan and other coastal provinces. Many are now partially submerged in water. I would have serious concerns if I was laying out major dosh for river-front condo's like The River project.

How constricted is the Chao Phraya River? If a river has been locked in to place such as the Mississippi is in Louisiana, that is where you begin to see subsidence. It cannot continue to add new land that is constantly sinking in to the sea.

Oh soooooo many billions to be made in "Global Warming Research". It's like why would they cure major diseases when they can make billions on the drugs they sell.

I think the link is "wet feet", but from different angles. :o

UN wants to make it an income distribution scheme with the "rich" nations paying a penalty for global warming and the "poor" nations getting the cash. Only its the middleman who makes out like a bandit, and as shown over and over again the UN employess from the top on down are getting away with the cash.

You'd think with the natural or unnatural soil subjugation of BKK and rising sealevels there'd be alot of water filling the streets. Putting your faith in the UN is akin to pixxing in the wind, not a very wise thing to do.
