Valid from the date it is issued.

The visa will be valid for travel to Thailand from the date of its issue until the “must be utilized before” date shon on the visa.

Upon arrival in Thailand, an entry stamp will be put in your passport giving you permission to stay for 90 days from your date of arrival.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

And this becomes more important if get more than a single entry. Because the time that you have to make your multiple entries is until the "must be utilized before" date. So if you wait too long, it is time that you could be using the visa for staying in Thailand. Whereas with a single entry, as long as you use it before the date, you still only get your 60+30(extension) days.

so how long is given to you in the “must be utilized before” date after the visa has been issued?

It will be a mutliple visa so i still get the 15 months if i enter before the “must be utilized before” date?

1 Year after date of issue.

A Multiple Non-O-Visa is valid and literally running right from the date of issuance. On the date of your entering Thailand you will be given a so-called 90-Days-Stamp-to-Stay. After those 90 days you have to do a border run (leave the country) to activate your next 90 days.

“Utilized” means that the visa is valid and has to be used before the given date. Literally speaking, if you utilize your visa 1 day prior the to-be-utilized date, you will then only be granted 90 days. Don’t be mistaken that you can utilize your visa for 15 months from the date of your first entrance, unless you use your visa right after it has been issued. In other words, if you do a border run just before the "to-be-utilized date this will give you another 90 days.

I think the OP is considering a border crossing day before 'must be utilized' = he gets another 90 days. That works, but some loss of days getting to Thailand, and loose some days with early border crossing, so not quite 15 months.

Correct. That would be the smart thing to do.

So i might aswell get the visa closer to the time i go, i will be applying at the consulate in birmingham uk, my freind told me u can get the visa the same day (that was last year) but with the application it says enclose a prepaid self addressed envelope so i guess you cant now. I was at the thai embassy in london a few weeks ago sorting my kids thai passports out and saw a sign saying all visas take 48 hours to process. I know i should of asked them questions then but we were to busy and so were the embassy as we got there just before they closed. So should i expect it back within a week?

Also i know i need my marriage certificate but it doesnt ask for her id card/copy of, to be presented on application, maybe its best to take it anyway?
