A rather strange one...

" CANADIAN PRESS Air Canada has confirmed the co-pilot of an Air Canada flight from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport to London was admitted to an Irish hospital after becoming ill in the cockpit yesterday.

“The co-pilot fell ill during the flight and the captain elected to divert to Shannon,” Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said today.

“The aircraft landed without incident. At no time were the safety of the passengers or crew in question,” said Fitzpatrick.

“The flight was met by medical personnel and the individual is now in care,” he said.

But Fitzpatrick would not confirm a report by the Irish Independent newspaper that the co-pilot suffered a nervous breakdown and is undergoing psychiatric care after being forcibly removed from the flight, saying the airline doesn’t provide details about personnel issues.

Nor could he say how long the co-pilot is expected to remain in hospital in Ireland.

Reporter Pat Flynn of the Irish Independent newspaper said he had been told by sources at the Shannon Airport that the co-pilot “had been speaking loudly to himself and acting in a peculiar fashion” in the cockpit and had to be restrained by cabin crew members and at least one passenger, an off-duty member of the Canadian military. What is not reported in that article, but just heard on net radio, is that he was carried off restrained on a stretcher, cursing and calling out for help from the almighty!

Depends on what report that you read...still it pretty sad :D

...but could have been much worse...remember Egypt Air flight a couple of years ago....

from some local paper..??

The co-pilot of a Heathrow-bound plane was dragged kicking and screaming from the cockpit after suffering a mental breakdown while in control of the flight.

He began yelling and “invoking God” as the Air Canada 767 flew at 37,000 feet over the Atlantic.

He was held down by other crew members and a passenger, a member of the Canadian armed forces.

The co-pilot then had restraints fastened to his wrists and ankles and was handcuffed to a seat.

The flight from Toronto made an emergency landing in Shannon and the co-pilot, who had been crying and screaming according to witnesses, was taken off the plane.

He was taken by ambulance to a psychiatric ward where he is being treated for a suspected nervous breakdown.

Also seems that they dragged him into cattle class in order that they wouldnt annoy the golden balls up front in Busi/first

......and how can anyone poss.make a statement statement like this :o

'At no time were the safety of the passengers or crew in question,” said @@@@@@.......in this case the mind Boggles... :D
