Suwai Elephant Village

Featured Replies

I'm planning to go to Surin and from there to the elephant village. I readed bout there's a daily bus service from Surin bus station

Anyone know how long is the trip? And prices to see the show and ride an elephant?

Other attractions nearby for someone with no much time?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Snows

You may want to checkout the website above (Farang Connection). Very informative about this area and BTW located near to bus station. Martin, the owner is very helpful and if you give him a ring, he can organize trips too.

Hope you enjoy this area of LOS

yes thank u, I sent them an e-mail and they replied very fast ^^

Don't have precise answers but I found this village a bit of a rip-off when I drove there once. At that time there wasn't a formal show as far as I could see, but various individuals touting to let you see their elephants and sell you rides and elephant food. On the day of my visit it was very quiet and hands seemed to be constantly held out. The price of rides was by negotiation. I think I was offered a choice of 500 or 200 baht. I asked how long the latter would buy and was told 30 minutes. Actually it was 5 minutes around one field. By the time the family had paid for various treats and packets of cut bamboo and so on, that seemed quite enough. Perhaps I'm mean but I haven't been tempted to go back.

We have been a couple of times, mainly to attend the " St Valentines Day Weddings", which incidently has been cancelled this year, and, apart from the obligatory trip to the beer tent, have not spent anything. OK we didn't go riding, but the show was free, and there was no entrance fee. Maybe it's changed. I will endeavour to check this out further.

We visited the elephant village about 15 months ago and then again 3 weeks ago. It has improved a lot and they have spent money on the performance arena and covered tiered seating. The show lasts about 1 hour and is great entertainment. It is free although they do sell sugar cane and bananas for the kids to give to the elephants.

If you are superstitious you can walk under the belly of a big old lady elephant 3 times for good luck.

It takes about an hour to drive up there from Surin and Martin could probably arrange transport for you.

The morning show starts at 10 am and i believe there is another show in the afternoon.
