PM sees no need to dissolve House for early election

BANGKOK, Sept 15 (TNA) - Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday reiterated he would not dissolve the House of Representatives for early general election since it would put him in a difficult position to give a reason to the society.

The prime minister told members of his Thai Rak Thai (TRT) Party at a party meeting that he had volunteered to serve people for another four-year term.

So, he could not find an excuse to justify if he decided to dissolve the House of Representatives ahead of the general election, said Suranant Vejajiva, the party spokesman.

On news that some members of parliament of theTRT Party had planned to gather signatures to petition the premier to dissolve the House, Mr. Suranant said it might be only personal views of individual persons.

He did not expect any group of MPs of the ruling party would move to press the premier to dissolve the House.

The TRT's Party Deputy Party Spokeswoman, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdee, then said the premier was not serious with the news and had asked all MPs of the party not to heed rumors released by ill-intention people who wanted to discredit the government.

The premier pledged with party members that the House dissolution would not occur even one day before the general election date is announced.

In the past, premiers, who decided to dissolve the House, would usually have no opportunity to form the government once again, she quoted Mr. Thaksin as saying.

"The TRT-led government will complete its four-year term in the next 10 weeks. So, I want to see all MPs attend the House session. From October onwards, our party will begin the election campaign and declare policies on a continual basis," he premier was quoted as saying.

Now flog me with a flu-ridden feather duster if I'm wrong, but .......

I'm sure that within the last year the PM said he'd retire from politics in 2006

and........

During the last general election campaign he said he would serve one term only, then hand the reins over to someone else.

So what's this waffle now about him staying in position for another 4 years - i.e. until 2008 (not 2006), and for a toatal of two terms (not one)?

As a baseline of trustworthiness, I think these moving goalposts say it all.
