PeterUK
I know two Thai words for the verb 'to try' - 'payayaam' and 'loong', but am not sure about usage. Can anyone provide sentences to illustrate any differences in meaning?
wasabi
I think payayaam means effort and loong means experiment ผมจะพยายามไปหาแม่วันนี้ ผมอยากลองดูอาหารไทย I hope that's right.
aanon
I know two Thai words for the verb 'to try' - 'payayaam' and 'loong', but am not sure about usage. Can anyone provide sentences to illustrate any differences in meaning? payayam = to make an effort; to endeavour; to strive lawng = to sample; to have a go; to experiment; to taste; to make an attempt both these words can be covered by 'try' in english, but hopefully that helps show their differences. eg. i will try to improve my english before travelling overseas - use payayam พยายาม i'm going to try skiing when i get to switzerland - use lawng ลอง we can do anything if we really try - use payayam try putting a little extra tomato sauce on the pizza and see what you think - use lawng all the best
