Firefox updated itself..... after that, no connection to web. All other programms ( mail / explorer work fine ).

Any reason / fix ?

Well at least the program seems to be very safe now

Mine auto updated also... Unusual to do like that, normally just prompts if you want to update.

Mine worked fine after the update. Do you have any special proxy or other net settings that might have gotten undone through the update???

Hi :o

I also feel that Firefox started doing weird things to do with "updating". Last Friday my office machine did it - i was typing something in a web form when suddenly Firefox disappeared - just closed itself without any warning, i had four tabs and two windows open, both gone.

After a few seconds then it started itself again, restoring the open pages and tabs (inclusive what i had typed into that form!) and an additional one informing me that i had "updated to the latest version of Firefox".

Isn't it possible to stop this update terror altogether? Every day for the first 10 minutes i can hardly use the internet because 599 applications phone home to update themselves as soon as i turn on my machine. If i WANT to update i can do that very well myself, thank you very much.

Best regards......

I only use Firefox 2.0.0.12 for MSN

I have been using Firefox 3 for some time and is much faster, only you cannot use MSN or hotmail Beta live yet as it is not the full version only the test version.

Tools (at the top) then options. Under options click the advanced tab, then you will see an update tab. Click that and then under "When updates to firefox are found" click "ask me what I want to do."

Hey thank you very much for that :o Indeed it was set to "download and install updates automatically". Haven't checked yet how it is set at my own machine, but there it usually pops up a little window when i START Firefox telling me that there are updates ready and if i want to install them now? It never did so during a surfing session but it must be silently downloading them, just wait for the next start to install them. It does the same with the add-ons (no add-ons on my office machine).

I am generally against auto-updating for the mentioned reason...... whenever i start my computer (home as well as office) there are a ton of apps checking for updates.... the stupidest of all is that HP driver updater, about once a week it pops up (and very persistant, that thing stays on top of all windows!) telling me "there might be updates to your driver software, do you want to check now?" with the only option being "yes". It then rummages around on the HDD for a while (few minutes) and tells me "sorry there are no updates at this time". <deleted>. I also disabled Windows auto-update because it asks to reboot the machine usually when i am at about 50% of a four-hour video converting session. And at the office it's AVG which annoys most - it takes over 5 minutes to update itself, and does it EVERY TIME i reboot, even after a reboot due to it's own update! And during that checking for updates or installing some i can't do anything at all with the machine, that process uses all resources. That's on XP, at home i use Avast! on Vista and THAT updates fast and pain-free.

With kind regards......
