Hi Everyone,

I'm an English major hailing from DC. I'm also about to graduate and attempting to teach in Thailand for a year before doing my masters in Cultural Anthropology. I wanted to pose a quick question to you all. Since I started my investigation on Thailand and employment opportunities, I've come up with a few standard responses: International Schools are the highest ranked, then Bilingual and finally language programs. I was wondering if you guys could elucidate just a bit further for me.

Once May 10 rolls around I will be a college graduate holding a BA in English (minor in French and theatre), with no TEFL certification and scattered though relevant experience. And I'm wondering what my chances are for securing a decent job that pays well (35,000 +), allows me to work Monday to Friday (so I can travel on weekends), and provides a 'workable' environment (no crazy coworkers or absolutely ludicrous demands).

I've had extensive internships and working experience (for a college student) including implementing a Peer to Peer collegiate tutorial program, private tutoring of children between 4 and 10 in Mathematics and English, acting as a teacher's aide in summer camps for children between 7 and 10 (teaching Drama, Arts and Moral studies), and am currently a TA for a Freshman English class at my university. I also worked as a journalist, editor, writer and claims officer, but those probably won't matter.

Still, do you think that BA in English and this experience is enough to secure what I want? And which schools would you recommend?

Thanks for your help :o

Your not too demanding. What you want is pretty much the ballpark area for new teachers. Where I work the starting pay is 35,000 and includes housing. A little higher without housing. Weekend work once in a while--an English Camp once a year and maybe an event or two that falls during a Sat/Sun. But it's rare. For two years, for example, nothing on a weekend.

Your most unrealistic demand seems to be not wanting 'crazy coworkers' because most schools have their share!

If you want more specific information, you can PM and I'll be glad to give the link to our web site and answer any questions.

Thanks Scott,

Just sent you the message. :D I appreciate the help. I figure I can deal with crazy coworkers if the other factors are great- I have my share of crazy classmates and teachers now :o
