We are in BKK for a while and have 5 days off. We would like suggestions on where we might visit. In higher altitudes, cooler places away from the coast would be nice. We are a family with a 9 y.o. daughter.

Chiang Mai.. Go on an elephant trek in the hills etc..

I'd be grabbing a chalet in the mountains around Loei. (or NAN... lovely rustic little town)

Try Khao Yai .......only a couple of hours travel from BKK ..... beutiful scenery, plenty of things to see, and do to keep both you and 9 year old happy for a few days ..... and it's about 7 deg cooler than BKK all year round.
