Hi,

I am going to Bangkok next week, and want to get my wife's daughter a Thai Passport. I wanted to get a jump on the process before I set off. Does anyone know:

(1) If I can download the application form anywhere

(2) Where we have to go in Bangkok (the address)

(3) How much it costs

(4) How long it takes and what the process is (do you go, then go back in a few days, or do they send it you etc.)

Thanks for any advice.

Department of Consular Affairs houses the main passsport office

Passport application is extremely high tech in thailand. The application 'form' is litterally 5 lines long...so you just fill it in there. She'll need her ID card, but to be safe, bring along her birth certificate and tabieen baan. All photos, fingerprints etc are done onsite. The information on the passport is automatically downloaded from the tabieen baan database.

From memory as well, I think she'll need both parents either there, or at least signatures from them signing off on the passport application of a minor. Best to ring and find out on that one.

Passport takes 3 days if you pick it up yourself, or 5 days with postage to home.

Both parents have to be present and sign for a passport issue. There are legal workarounds but it is not easy to avoid this requirement. As most children will not have an ID card the birth certificate and tabieen baan (home register) are probably going to be required.

Unfortunately the MFA web site passport page has not been available for view for the last year.
