Hi,

Needing to know: Do you legally have to pay tax if not earning if you have a work permit? Since it's coming up to holiday season and some us wont be working, boss is saying still have to pay tax, is this true?

I was paying more than twice the correct amount of tax last semester and have never been re-imbursed this from my employer after me telling her hundreds of times that it was wrong. Can I be reimbursed this amount or can it be used to pay future tax bills?

Here's the story to help you understand our problem. Our (partner and I) contracts end on Thursday. We agreed to work Friday to help her out (actually she threatened to take 4000 out of our wages if we didn't). It was also agreed and in the contract that she would not cancel the permits until we left Thailand as we want to head up to Chiang Mai for a holiday. She is now saying that she will cancel the work permits this week unless we pay her 6000 baht. What can we do about it? We don't have the time to do a visa run and have all the flights etc booked.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Do a visa run from Chiang Mai. Think of it as a chance to visit thee Hmong or some cultural trip.

Don't stress, just adapt your plans a little. :o

Remember if the employer cancels your work permit, you have 7 days to leave the country / do visa run so assume that your work permits will be cancelled the moment you walk out the door and adjust your itinerary accordingly. Post in the Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai forum for suggestions to visit local border places. It is all part of the journey of life.
