Hi,

I'm a little confused as to where I stand when it comes to applying for my 1 year extension of my non imm o visa...

I do not work in Thailand as I am studying part time via the open university on the internet for my degree, I am a 23 year old UK female married to a thai citizen, we are expecting our first child and I do not feel comfortable with the idea of continuing to do visa runs every three months or going back to england to give birth and renew my non "o" visa.

My visa multi entry non imm "o" visa was issued last year and has expired this year, So I'm on my last entry for this visa and if I dont get the one year extension I have to go back to the UK on the 22nd April and apply for a new non imm "o" visa, this wasn't so much a problem as I would go back and visit my family for a couple of months, but I recently learnt I am pregnant and going back in april to come back in june or july may not be possible as first planned...

So now I am hoping to be able to apply for the one year extension to enable me to have our baby in Thailand with my husband.

We do not have a lot of money, and live very basic but we manage well on my husbands income of about 15,000 thb per month from his cousins small auto business.

My main questions...

1. I have read that there has to be 40,000 thb per month income to get this visa if income is dependent mainly on the foreigner and not the thai, so would this apply as we depend on my husbands income?? Is it not different as I am pregnant?

2. Where do I apply? What exactly do we need paper work wise to apply?

Any information or links would be grately appreciated as I am starting to panic. :o

Although they will probably ask about your husbands income there does not seen to be any requirements when the male is Thai. So you should apply when you have less than 30 days remaining on your permitted to stay stamp. You and husband would have to visit local immigration office (you don't say where you are) and fill out a TM.7 form (you can download from pinned items at top of forum) with 4x6cm current photo of you and have your passport/departure card and copies. Husband should have his ID card and home register/copies. Expect a medical certificate of expected birth would be an added plus. Photos together/at home would be good to have. He will likely have to supply a page or so of information (address and such) and sign a form or two but should not be too much. You can visit immigration ahead of time and they will likely be able to provide you an exact list of what they want. In general it is not a problem for females and the only expense will the 1,900 baht fee but there may be a 30 day under review period before the final extension is stamped so could be two visits. If you later want to travel outside of Thailand a re-entry permit must be obtained first and that will be 1,000 baht or 3,800 for multi entry type.

exactly as Lop explained it.

I extended my wife's non-immigrant O visa last month, married to me a Thai citizen. No income documentation required, even though I bought it along. Though you need to have photo's showing where you live.

In fact, you shouldn't have been doing a visa run at all. In the last month of your first entry, you can get your stay extended for the remaining life of your visa (ie 9 months). At the end of that first year, you go and get it extended for another year.

This may sound a bit harsh, but you should probably start to panic (or rather, better not).

You're 23, expecting your first child (congratulations, by the way), but you're thinking you're managing well on 15,000 Baht per month from your husband's cousin's business?

You're basically looking at 3 people living from 15,000 Baht per month ...and the income, as I understand, is provided by your husband's cousin, not by your husband. Maybe I read that part wrong, correct me if so, but still.

There are way bigger problems coming your way than just the Visa (which have been addressed above by others already, so I will stop repeating it). You need to seriously start planning for your future. Because unless you have some major cash reserves, you'll be in deep poop (to use a nice word) soon. Children and especially their education cost a lot of money. And 15,000 Baht per month may be enough now, but not when the baby is here. And especially not if the baby ever needs to go to the hospital for an extended period of time.

Just giving you some friendly advice. Don't take it the wrong way, please!

Thanks for the advis Samran and Lopburi3, I will do just that...

Location...We have just recently moved to samui. So I think that the local immigration office is in surrathani (He is originally from Hissan, although i dont think that makes a difference)

I'll go and check it out first , then I will know exactly what to take...Thats a big relief to know it is slightly different, and I'm very grateful for all your help... :o

Rainman thanks for your advise, my husband works for his cousin, he earns the wage.

And although you may see the small income a panic we get by just fine and we are insured for hospital treatment through my husbands work, the baby will be insured too, and even with my husbands wage we have savings.

Yes children CAN cost alot of money, if you buy them millions of toys and clothes and send them to the best schools. Every one wants only whats best for their child but some people have different ideas about what is best.. there are people that like to live basic and have children and they manage and are mee kom suk... By the time they are going to school I should be working as I will have finished my degree... So my worries are not really materialistic ones as we have a home and food and water, but rather what is of most important for me at the moment is being able to stay with my husband as a family.

But thanks, i understand what you are saying and anyone can panic about money especially when it comes to children..but no need for concern like I said that isn't something that i have a problem with it was regarding my visa being extended..

Immigration does have an office in Nathon, no need to go to Surat Thani. K Nok is the person who processes all visa extensions and is an expert in women married to Thai men having done my visa extensions since about 1995 :o Go to the Immigration office and talk to him personally for all the requirements you will need. He can answer any questions you may have. Good luck :D

The Immigration Office is on the ring road a few killometers before you get to Nathon on the left side coming from Lamai direction (going clock wise).

As for 15k a month, quite possible where I live up country but Samui is relatively expensive.

Anyway ,you seem to know what you are doing. Good Luck.
