Hello - I am a U.S. citizen on Social Security Retirement Disability. Due to my disability, my Social Security Account deposits do not go directly into my personal bank account, but into a "Representative Payee's" account. My Representative Payee (a trusted family member) then transfers all of my funds into my personal account, for direct use by me personally at ATMs, etc. Obviously I am not happy at all with this arrangement the SSA set up, and consider it B*ll S**t! I'm not that damned disabled!

Anyway, I am worried this will pose a problem in the verification of my monthly income by the U.S. embassy and/or Thai Immigration. The reason for my concern is due to my SSA account and bank statements being entitled "Mr (Representative Payee) FOR (MrMagoo)", not my name only, and therefore income supporting documents may be construed as an indicator my income is not necessarily stable. I will be seeking a Marriage visa and will be needing a Proof of Income document for the U.S. Embassy marriage permit and for Thai Immigration at visa application time, not to mention for renewals.

Has anybody had any experience in "Representative Payee" issues? Or any ideas/suggestions? Unfortunately, I must use the income criteria to qualify.

(By the way, I do possess ONE Social Security document showing ONLY my name, which states my monthly benefit amount. But I'd hate to have to rely on this single document as being sufficient. If somebody wanted additional proof, things could get complicated (and uncomfortable) for me and not easy to explain my way out of).

Thank you.

It should not be a problem. For US Embassy you fill out a paper and sign it under oath. There is no other paperwork normally required. If Immigration asks for additional paperwork there is no reason what you have would not be sufficient. It is normal to have account for others in this world - my IRA account is written in the same manner. Your bank/fund is the custodian for you.

As the Mod mentioned above its no problem. American consulate last time did not want to attach my SS statement to the income declaration as they said "We Trust You". I had them do so as it makes it easy for Thai's as they want a copy of the declaration.

Did the Thai Immig. ask for your soc sec statement or did you just want to volunteer it? I thought they Accepted the notarized statement as proof. I am suprised if they even knew what it was.

ALso, hope you blocked out your ss# and name address info as that is basically the info required to do an ID theft of someone.

Very good point about blocking out these two items. Do you readers agree? Anybody have a problem doing so?

The paperwork is probably not required at all if you have such concerns. I would have no problem providing as is but those that have felt the need to remove have not had a problem from Immigration if they explain why from previous reports.
