Hi all, I have been reading Thai visa forum for over a year now and have enjoyed the many postings. I am in need of a little advice, please. I am a 53 yr. old American living in Thailand for over 2 years and have been legally married and registered to a thai wife for over 1 yr. My original visa was a non Ed, which was changed to a single entry non B by my employer and it expires on April 30. My teaching contract will be renewed and I know I can get another Non B, but I would rather change it to a multi entry non O (I make 40k baht/mo). I have searched the forum, but have been unable to find this specific question, I have downloaded all the forms I will need and I believe I have most of the documentation I will need. I think I can go to the Pattaya One Stop visa office, but not sure. Can you please give me some advice?

Sincerely, Teetersb

You do not want a visa. You want an extension of stay for family reasons. Your current visa is fine for that. You visit Immigration in Jomtien with wife and paperwork for one year extension of stay. Cost will be 1,900 baht and you will probably have to change the work permit after approval but do not know details on that.

First time user on this forum or any forum for that matter.

I have almost similar circumstances as your previous comment this morning indicated.

I became aware of this website from doing a Cambodia Bus run on Tuesday to have my passport extended for thirty days after being on a non-immig type B.

I was also told by immigration bureau that could be extended up to 90 days, however some 180 day rule may be enforced.

I'm here teaching English in LopBuri which expires this month, but my previous extension gave me until 4 Mar, reason I had to run to Cambodia for a 30 day visa.

I'm married to a Thai and plan to teach another school term in November 08.

Should I get another extension on my current visa or apply for a extension of stay?

What do you think?

For extension of stay you will have to prove family income of 40k per month or more. This can be you/wife/or combined. If you are on a 30 day entry you must do it during the first 9 days.

The bus run would be to the border to enter other country and return providing you a 30 day visa exempt entry. This is limited to 90 days in any six month period and you can not work using that type of entry.

If you are not working again until November believe you should consider a non immigrant O visa on the basis of your marriage (take marriage certificate and signed/dated copy of spouse ID card) from a Thai Consulate. Single entry will provide 90 day stay and if you have 400k in a bank account you would likely be able to obtain a multi entry valid for one year of 90 day stays from Singapore.

Thank you Lopburi3. I have the Extension form(tor mor 7) and other paper work, but shouldn't I also use the Change visa form (tor mor 86) to change my B visa to an O visa? My understanding is I can extend my work permit with either the B, or O visa and I am thinking about the long term and if my contract is not renewed then I don't have to scramble for the 7 day change of visa. Advice?

You don’t need TM.86 because you are not changing visa. You are making a new application for extension of stay, this time giving a different reason for the application than you did last time.
